Job summary

Virnig Manufacturing, Inc. is seeking a Sandblaster/operator to prepare surfaces for finishing by using high-pressure blasting.

You will operate a blast booth, unload the cabinet, and may cross-train as a backup in paint, weld, and shipping areas. Proficiency with forklifts and understanding scheduling systems are required for this role.

Qualifications

• Powder coat experience or equivalent painting experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; basic math skills required.
• Mechanical experience and welding experience are preferred.
• Forklift and hoist experience required.
• Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Remove dirt, paint, grease, and other built-up material from surfaces.
• Set up and operate a blast booth or similar equipment.
• Apply and remove non-skid materials as needed.
• Assist in loading and unloading the powered paint line.
• Set up and operate machines to powder coat steel products.
• Loads and unloads attachments and parts then move items down the paint line.
• Observe machine gauges and equipment operation to detect defects or deviations from standards, and make necessary adjustments.
• Weigh or measure chemicals, coatings, or paints before adding them to machines.
• Maintain pre-treatment equipment, spray booths, ovens and manual powder gun applicators.
• Inspects attachments and parts for quality and informs Lead of any problems.
• Use of Forklift (both electric and gas powered) and hoists as required.
• Detect faulty operation of equipment and notify supervisors when necessary.
• Ensure all safety policies are followed, wear PPE.
• Participate in proper ergonomic practices as designed for this position.
• Maintain a clean and organized area/workstation.
• Work as a team member to aid all shifts and support personnel in operations of departmental standards including quality and productivity goals.
• Inform leads of any concerns that arise.
• Be cooperative, positive, and respectful with leads, coworkers, and team.
• Assist in other areas as needed; other duties as assigned.
• Work overtime as needed.
• Regular and predictable attendance.

Description

A Sandblaster is responsible for preparing surfaces for finishing treatments by using high-pressure equipment to propel abrasive materials. In addition to operating the blast booth and unloading the cabinet, the sandblast operator will be cross trained to be a backup in other areas as necessary, including the paint booth, weld department, and shipping area, if support is needed. Proficiency in operating a forklift, understanding of scheduling systems and ability to follow written and verbal instructions are necessary.

• Ability to work independently and on a team.


• Able to lift up to 100lbs, bend, twist, stand or sit for long periods, endure repetitive motion.
