Job summary

Novant Health is hiring full-time Safety Attendants for the Emergency Department (Night shift, 7pm–7am) at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. No prior medical background is required; we provide training and support as you become a vital part of the care team in the ED.

Responsibilities include 1:1 patient observation, basic care tasks, vital signs, infection‑control practices, and accurate documentation while maintaining a safe environment. Certifications within 90 days are required.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience: Prior hospital experience preferred.
  • Certifications: De‑Escalation Techniques, Life Support Responder, MOAB within required timeframes.
  • Ability to work with all age groups and follow safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 observation and support for patients at risk to themselves or others, reporting concerns to the nursing team.
  • Assist patients with daily activities (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, mobility) as delegated by the nurse.
  • Obtain and record vital signs and capillary blood glucose readings; notify nurse if out of range.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment following infection-control and safety protocols.
  • Document care accurately, respond to pages or calls, and support patient transport when needed.
