Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Less than 1 year prior laboratory assistance and/or phlebotomy training required at certain laboratory locations.

Responsibilities

• Collect, identify, label, and process patient specimens in accordance with department policies.
• Prepare and transport specimens for analysis, including centrifuging, aliquoting, and storage, while maintaining orderly and timely flow to technical departments.
• Review laboratory requisitions for accuracy, medical necessity, and the institution's ability to perform or route testing, communicating with clinical staff as needed to resolve issues.
• Support patient registration, assist with specimen automation loading, and collaborate with nursing and laboratory personnel to facilitate efficient laboratory operations.
• Conduct phlebotomy via venipuncture or micro-technique and provide training and guidance to other laboratory assistants as directed.
