Job summary

MidHudson Regional Hospital, part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), seeks a compassionate Emergency Department Psychiatrist to join our behavioral health team in Poughkeepsie, NY. This part-time night position offers rapid psychiatric assessment, crisis intervention, and treatment planning for patients presenting evenings and weekends in a fast-paced ED.

Requirements include MD/DO, Board Certified/Eligible in Psychiatry, NY license, and completion of a psychiatry

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited institution.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
• Unrestricted New York State medical license (or eligibility).
• Completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency Program.
• Experience in emergency psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, crisis services, or related behavioral health settings preferred.
• Strong clinical judgment, collaboration skills, and commitment to patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Conduct emergency psychiatric evaluations and risk assessments.
• Manage patients experiencing psychiatric, substance use, and behavioral health crises.
• Provide crisis stabilization, medication management, and treatment recommendations, including for inpatient psychiatric behavioral codes.
• Determine appropriate levels of care, including inpatient admission, observation, outpatient treatment, and community-based services.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate safe discharge and continuity of care.
• Support quality improvement, patient safety, and behavioral health initiatives.
• Participate in the development of innovative psychiatric emergency services.
