Job summary

LCMC Health's East Jefferson General Hospital seeks a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to perform a broad range of laboratory tests, evaluate specimens, and report findings that aid in diagnosing cancer, diabetes, and genetic conditions.

You will work nights, ensure specimen integrity, follow safety policies, maintain equipment, and contribute to a collaborative team dedicated to high-quality patient care across Louisiana communities.

Qualifications

• Licensed as Clinical Lab Generalist (CLG) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.

Responsibilities

• Ensure specimens received by the laboratory are acceptable for testing and prepare reagents and controls as needed.
• Label, accession and distribute specimens while maintaining patient identification integrity.
• Initiate orders for blood components when required.
• Follow hospital and lab safety policies and infection control procedures.
• Perform manual and micro-methods, back-up procedures, and document procedures.
• Use the computer system to compare patient results with previous results and investigate discrepancies.
• Prepare and interpret gram stains and other preparations for bacteriology and parasitology.
• Conduct routine serology procedures including ABORH typing and antibody detection.
• Maintain aseptic technique while preparing blood components and store them properly.
• Evaluate serological reactivity and crossmatches.
• Maintain documentation and follow turnover times for results verification.
• Package and dispose of waste safely and correctly.
• Assist in the orientation of new staff and ensure inventory levels are adequate.
