• Performs phlebotomy procedures according to established policies and procedures.
• Organizes assigned work and ensures the workload is completed accurately and timely.
• Operates assigned equipment, performs required maintenance, and conducts procedures safely as instructed.
• Cross-trained in all areas; trains new team members on relevant technology; supports team to maintain workflow.
• Performs venipunctures and capillary draws on adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients, including difficult veins.
• Verifies patient identity and accuracy in labeling to prevent mislabeling.
• Maintains a sterile work environment and follows infection control protocols.
• Utilizes LIS or EMR to enter test orders and documentation.
• Explains procedures to patients, alleviates anxiety, and monitors comfort during draws.
• Prepares, processes, and transports specimens, often via pneumatic tube systems.
• Emphasis on patient experience.
