Job summary

Oklahoma Blood Institute in Tulsa, OK seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist to provide compatibility testing and consultation for complex serological problems.

Responsibilities include performing ABO/Rh typing, antibody detection, and crossmatching; reviewing patient history; coordinating specimen handling; and performing QC, calibration, and testing on transfusion service clients. Strong communication and teamwork are essential; BS MLS required; ASCP preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science with MT/MLS training program completed.
• ASCP registration preferred.
• Ability to resolve complex serological problems independently.
• Provide clear and concise consultation to physicians and technologists.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform quality control, calibration, maintenance and verification procedures for laboratory equipment.
• Receive hospital orders and coordinate specimen handling.
• Work with couriers on specimen pickup and delivery coordination.
• Review patient medical and transfusion history and correlate with laboratory results.
• Perform ABO, Rh, antibody detection and compatibility testing for transfusion service clients.
• Identify antibodies for transfusion service clients and member hospitals.
• Fill antigen-negative requests and select appropriate units.
• Perform RBC crossmatch and related titration procedures.
• Prepare consultation reports for clinicians.
• Take call as needed for laboratory coverage.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas.
