Job summary

Ascend Hospice is seeking a Vigil Aide/CHHA to provide end-of-life vigil presence for patients in the greater Kansas City area, including Overland Park. The role involves bedside care, compassionate support to families, and collaboration with facilities to ensure comfort and dignity during the hospice journey.

Ideal candidates will hold a State Certified CHHA/CNA license, have hospice or home health experience preferred, and be willing to travel with reliable transportation and a valid driver’s

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a State Certified CHHA/CNA license.
• Experience in hospice or home health, preferred.
• No experience necessary but 1 year, preferred.
• Must be willing to travel.
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Provide end-of-life vigil presence at bedside in home or nursing home settings.
• Provides compassionate bedside presence for patients deemed vigil appropriate.
• Supports families through listening, education, and hospice presence as patient is actively dying.
• Collaborates with facility to ensure patient comfort, care and support.
• Provides presence after death to support family and facility prior to funeral home arrival.
• May provide caregiver relief for families needing a break from bedside.
• Assist with showers or other patient care needs as directed.
• Assists with ADL activities: personal hygiene, grooming, mouth, skin care and nails.
• Assists with toileting; positioning and transfer activities; frequent turning and positioning.

Education
