Job summary

The General Hospital Corporation is seeking a Unit Coordinator for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Boston. The role supports clinicians, coordinates patient admissions, discharges and transfers, and ensures timely, accurate documentation in the EMR while delivering courteous service to families.

The position is onsite at 273 Charles Street, involves 40 hours per week with evening shifts (3:00pm–11:30pm) and a rotating schedule.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Unit Coordinator Certification - NACUC preferred.
  • 1-2 years of administrative support experience.
  • Proficiency with office procedures and equipment (filing, copying, scanning, printing, faxing).
  • Proficiency in MS Office and strong proofreading/editing abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support to unit-based and hospital-wide clinicians and staff.
  • Organizes priorities, completes tasks on time and handles confidential patient information.
  • Coordinates day-to-day patient flow including admissions, discharges and transfers.
  • Delivers outstanding service for every customer interaction.
  • Performs clerical duties to assist in the general administration of the floor.
  • Greets and assists patients, families and staff in a professional manner.
  • Receives, prioritizes, organizes and manages information at the nursing station.
  • Schedules consultations, tests, procedures and patient transport.
  • Enters accurate, timely patient information into the EMR.
  • Coordinates with ancillary departments to obtain equipment, services and supplies.
  • May assist with payroll duties or scheduling of staff.
