Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to evaluate and treat patients of all ages with communication and oral‑pharyngeal disorders, to develop and maintain functional communication and swallowing abilities.

You will document findings, guide patients and caregivers, and provide training and guidance to students and interns, while supporting program development and leadership within the department.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Current Texas license to practice SLP and ASHA certification; BLS required.
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience; ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand/walk.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient evaluations with physician referrals.
  • Develop and implement a Speech-Language Pathology treatment plan.
  • Reassess and adjust goals and program as needed.
  • Educate patients and caregivers; document findings in medical records.

Job Summary

Position responsible for the evaluation and rehabilitation of patients of all ages with communication and oral‑pharyngeal disorders of functional or neurological origin, in order to facilitate the development and maintenance of human communication and swallowing ability. Documents findings, progress and instruction to patients and caregivers. Serves as a resource to Speech Pathologists, assists LevelIII speech pathologists and leadership with program development, and provides training and guidance to students and interns.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited university‑based Speech/Language Pathology program.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice Speech/Language Pathology by the State Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology for Texas; current certification from the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association; current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Minimum two (2) years of experience. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally; ability to stand for prolonged periods and walk, stoop, and squat frequently; fine hand dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, oral and written communication skills, and vision to monitor instruments, computers, and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors, and observe physical characteristics.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Assumes responsibility in the care of the patient.
  • Performs a complete, comprehensive evaluation of patients with a physician’s referral.
  • Accurately interprets evaluation findings.
  • Completes a written plan of care, develops goals based on evaluation findings, and develops a comprehensive program to attain those goals.
  • Implements a Speech/Language Pathology treatment program.
  • Re‑assesses patient status and alters treatment goals, plan, and program as needed.
  • Motivates and instructs patients/caregivers using appropriate methods.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, patients, caregivers, physicians, insurance companies, and professional colleagues.
  • Manages time effectively.
  • Documents appropriately in the medical record and fulfills other documentation duties accurately and efficiently.
  • Serves as a clinical resource, mentor, and clinical instructor to staff, students, hospitals, schools, or the broader community.
  • Actively pursues clinical expertise in specific treatment techniques or management of particular patient populations.
  • Participates in organized system/facility/departmental committees and taskforces.
  • Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings, and meetings as delegated or requested by faculty.
  • Provides educational/in‑services/journal reviews to colleagues, peers, and the community.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency, supporting department‑based goals that contribute to organizational success.
  • Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
