Job summary

Predicine, a Silicon Valley-based precision medicine company, seeks an Automation Engineer (Laboratory) in Hayward, CA, to advance our NGS and liquid handling workflows. You will design, optimize, and support automated systems to improve sequencing throughput and data quality, collaborating with IT, QA, and lab operations.

The ideal candidate has 1–3+ years in lab automation or NGS, familiarity with Hamilton liquid handling systems and Venus software, and strong problem-solving and documentation

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biotechnology, Biology, or related field.
• 1–3+ years of laboratory automation or NGS experience; recent graduates with internship/research automation welcome to apply.
• Experience or familiarity with Hamilton liquid handling systems and Venus software preferred; scheduling software experience a plus.
• Exposure to lab automation platforms and instrumentation (e.g., Agilent, Bio-Rad, Thermo Fisher) and lab software (e.g., BIOlims) preferred.
• Understanding of barcoding, labware management, and sample traceability tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support automated liquid handling systems for NGS assays.
• Assist in translating and optimizing manual laboratory processes onto automated platforms.
• Provide training and technical support during rollout of new automated methods.
• Author and maintain SOPs and quality documentation for regulatory compliance.
• Support instrument configuration documentation (IQ/OQ/PQ) and change control.
• Complete quality documentation and ensure adherence to internal and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including IT, Facilities, and Lab Operations.

Job Title: Automation Engineer (Laboratory) - NGS / Liquid Biopsy

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Automation Engineer with a strong interest or hands‑on experience in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), laboratory automation, and liquid handling systems to join our growing team. You'll help design, optimize, and support automated workflows that improve the efficiency, scalability, and precision of our sequencing pipeline - working cross-functionally with lab operations, IT, and quality teams. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support automated liquid handling systems for NGS assays

• Familiarity with regulatory compliance and configuration management concepts (CLIA/CAP a plus)
