Job summary

Marathon Petroleum Corporation seeks an NGL Accounting professional in San Antonio, TX, to join the NGL Accounting group within the R&M Operations Accounting department. You will work closely with traders, schedulers, yield accounting and other partners to ensure accurate recording of purchases, sales and inventory activity.

The position emphasizes strong analytical skills, ownership of journal entries, and support for audits and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• Minimum 2 years accounting/finance experience.

Responsibilities

• Work with traders and schedulers to ensure all purchases and sales are recorded and reconciled.
• Ensure timely payment of vendor invoices by resolving discrepancies.
• Reconcile inventory balances at assigned locations with MPC and third-party partners.
• Identify efficiencies and recommend process improvements.
• Collect, analyze, and verify financial data to ensure accounting record integrity.
• Prepare analyses and schedules in support of financial statements.
• Create and record journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
• Ensure execution of controls and documentation per accounting policy.
• Utilize systems/tools such as Excel, SAP, Right Angle, BW, Quorum, etc.
• May mentor less experienced accountants.
• Support accounting processes by addressing business requirements and system enhancements.
• Assist with internal and external audits.
• Document, update, and maintain internal procedures; work on special projects.

Position Summary:

The NGL Accounting group is part of the R&M Operations Accounting department within the Controller’s organization. This group handles the accounting for purchases and sales of NGLs, as well as the associated inventory reconciliations. This position will work closely with traders and schedulers, yield accounting personnel and various other support organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work with traders and schedulers to ensure all purchases and sales by various modes of transportation are recorded, matched and distributed.
• Ensure timely payment of product purchases by investigating and resolving vendor invoice discrepancies.
• Reconcile inventory balances at assigned locations, working closely with MPC and third-party business partners to investigate discrepancies.
• Identifies efficiencies and recommends ways to improve processes and standards.
• Collects, compiles, analyzes, and verifies financial and other data to ensure the integrity of accounting records.
• Prepares analysis and schedules in support of financial statements.
• Creates and records journal entries and other transactions, maintains general ledger, and reconciles accounts.
• Ensures proper execution of controls and performance, documentation, and retention in accordance with accounting policy.
• Displays ability to utilize systems/tools, which may include, but not limited to, Excel, SAP, Right Angle, BW, Quorum, etc.
• May serve as a resource to less experienced accountants.
• Supports accounting processes by addressing and assisting with fulfilling business requirements, process, or system enhancements, and/or accounting standards.
• Ensures successful completion of internal and external audits.
• May document, update, and maintain internal procedures or work on special projects.
