Job summary

Christ Church in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a NextGen Director to lead all NextGen Ministries (Kids, Students, Young Adults). This role reports to the leadership team and serves as a primary preacher and builder of teams, aiming to develop future church leaders.

You’ll oversee Kids and Students Directors, mentor volunteers, shape a discipleship culture, and cast vision for ministries while partnering with families and the broader church to advance gospel-centered transformation.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of full-time church staff ministry.
  • An undergraduate degree is required.
  • Seminary degree or formal theological training is highly preferred (or a willingness to pursue it).

Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Preaching: Effectively handle God’s Word in NextGen ministry environments, parent forums, and weekly Young Adults gatherings.
  • Young Adults Leadership: Lead the Young Adults ministry and equip volunteer leaders.
  • Leadership & Development: Oversee Kids and Students Directors and multiply ministry leaders.
  • Discipleship & Culture: Develop a comprehensive discipleship strategy for birth through high school and model Christ Church culture.

About the NextGen Director

The NextGen Director serves as a leader over all Christ Church NextGen Ministries and is entrusted to provide oversight to the NextGen staff team (Kids, Students, and Young Adults). This role is designed as a 3-to-5-year stepping stone for a visionary leader aspiring to eventually plant a church or become a lead pastor. To be successful in this role, this person must be an effective communicator, a strong supervisor, and a strategically-minded leader who is passionate about advancing the mission of Christ Church and partnering with families. The NextGen Director will lead publicly, preach, manage the Kids and Students Directors, and serve as the primary leader for the Young Adult Ministry.

The NextGen Director responsibilities include:
  • Teaching & Preaching:Effectively handle God’s Word in NextGen ministry environments, parent forums, and weekly Young Adults gatherings. This leader must be a skilled expositor and communicator of God’s word who can biblically shepherd.
  • Young Adults Leadership:Serve as the primary leader for the Young Adults ministry and gatherings. Develop, equip, coach and support volunteer leaders in the Young Adult Ministry, and deploy them into NextGen ministry.
  • Leadership & Development:Provide overarching leadership to all NextGen ministries, including direct oversight and management of the Kids and Students Directors. Direct, develop, equip, coach, and support NextGen ministry staff and leaders, multiplying leaders who uphold the culture of Christ Church.
  • Discipleship & Culture:Develop and implement a comprehensive discipleship strategy for birth through high school that aligns with the convictions and culture of Christ Church. Ensure the culture of Christ Church is caught, taught, modeled, and transferred across all ministry teams. Personally and appropriately engage in relationships with parents and students for the advancement of discipleship in families.
  • Vision Casting:Cast vision for NextGen ministries by clearly articulating direction and rallying staff and team members around that vision. Uphold the convictions and ministry standards of Christ Church, ensuring all NextGen playbooks remain current and aligned.
  • Team Building & Management:Build, train, and deploy effective ministry teams to support current needs and future growth. Ensure ministry plans are executed with excellence, anticipating growth, solving problems, and efficiently prioritizing tasks.
  • Planning & Evaluation:Articulate clear, measurable goals for each ministry area and utilize appropriate tools and data acquisition to evaluate ministry effectiveness. Ensure the ministry assets and budgets are properly managed, while following established policies and procedures.
