USA TODAY Co., Inc. is seeking a Newsprint Handler - Lead for our Lakeland, FL production facility. This full-time, first-shift role entails unloading newsprint, maintaining warehouse organization, counting stock, and preparing rolls for the press.

Qualifications

• Excellent forklift skills; clamp truck experience is a plus.
• Basic computer skills.
• Mechanically inclined to aid in troubleshooting equipment.
• Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 80 pounds and move a 2,000-pound newsprint roll.

Responsibilities

• Unload multiple truckloads of newsprint daily.
• Maintain organization of the paper warehouse.
• Accurately take inventory of newsprint types and sizes in stock.
• Pull newsprint from the warehouse based on production needs and prepare for press use.
• Handle multiple tasks and prioritize in a dynamic environment.
• Adapt to rapidly changing production requirements.
• Solve problems analytically and take initiative.
• Identify and mitigate damaged newsprint.
• Communicate with transportation and logistics partners about shipments.
• Lead and maintain a team environment.
• Cross-train to support as a Reel Tender.

Full Time – 1st Shift – Monday-Friday

Overview

Paper – it’s even in the name, newspaper, and we use a lot of it! Over 12,000 1,800-pound rolls of newsprint are used each year in our Lakeland, Florida production facility. Each roll must be unloaded from a truck, stored in stacks in our warehouse, counted, pulled from the warehouse as needed, opened and made ready for use, and moved to a holding area awaiting use by the press. All of this is the responsibility of a Newsprint Handler.

• Excellent fork truck skills – clamp truck experience is a plus.
• Basic computer skills.
• Mechanically inclined to aid in troubleshooting equipment.
• Ability to stand, stoop, walk and bend down, as well as be able to lift up to 80 pounds and push a 2,000-pound roll of newsprint.

Key Responsibilities

• Unload multiple truckloads of newsprint daily.
• Maintain organization of the paper warehouse.
• Accurately take inventory of the various types and sizes of newsprint in stock.
• Based on productions requirements, pull newsprint from the warehouse, open and move to a holding area to await use by the press.
• Handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
• Adapt to rapidly changing production requirements.
• Solve problems analytically and act on your own initiative.
• Identify and mitigate damaged newsprint.
• Communicate with transportation and logistics partners regarding arrival of shipments.
• Take the lead and maintain a team environment
• Cross-train to provide support as a Reel Tender.

Safety Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Complete required OSHA safety training programs.
• Perform daily safety checks of warehouse fork and clamp trucks.
• Report any safety hazards, operational concerns, and accidents/injuries immediately.

Communication

• Provide timely and accurate inventory reports to the operations and finance teams.
• Report equipment issues promptly.
• Communicate instructions and train Newsprint Handlers
