We are seeking a Newsletter Writer-Strategist to join our organization. This is an exciting opportunity to join an enterprising new team dedicated to email alerts and newsletters at Yahoo News. The person in this role will create email alerts and newsletters, spanning news, entertainment, lifestyle, weather, etc., with the goal of driving daily active use from mail.

Our newsletter portfolio at Yahoo News is evolving. The ideal candidate, who is passionate and knowledgeable about email and newsletters, will work on existing products and new launches. The person in this role will sit within the Yahoo News Originals team and report to the Director, Newsletters. This person will partner with our team of journalists — as well as product, engineering, analytics and marketing teams.

Responsibilities:

• Conceive email alerts and shortform newsletters that will drive daily active use
• Coordinate with xfn stakeholders to design, develop and optimize email alerts and shortform newsletters
• Create editorial strategies and lineups for email alerts and shortform newsletters
• Create AB test plans and report on results of experiments
• Curate, write and build email alerts and shortform newsletters on a range of content categories including news, entertainment, lifestyle, and more
• Manage breaking news with urgency, speed, accuracy and attention to detail
• Analyze data and metrics to report out weekly and monthly on results
• Act as a Super User for tools, communicating issues and new feature requests

A Lot About You:

• 3+ years of newsletter experience, preferably at a news or major media brand
• Strong general knowledge across a wide range of topics and content categories, including news, entertainment and lifestyle topics
• Prior experience in identifying editorial and product requirements for newsletters
• Strong editorial judgment, knowledge of standards & style
• Excellent SL, PH, and headline writing skills
• Healthy project management, communication and diplomacy skills
• Self-motivated to win with a healthy sense of urgency
• Passion for the 24/7 news cycle
• Flexibility to work evenings/weekends if needed during major news events
• Proficiency in AP style, copy-editing

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with project management tools (Jira)
• Familiarity with newsletter platforms (Stensul, Zeta)
• Comfort with newsletter metrics and platforms (Zeta, Looker, Chartbeat)
