Job summary

TEGNA Inc. is seeking a dynamic News Director for WZZM-TV in Grand Rapids to lead our multi-platform content operation. You will own the day’s big stories, drive standout investigative reporting, and steer editorial decisions with a data-informed approach across broadcast, digital and streaming.

You will mentor talent, guide performance, and recruit a team that reflects the community we serve. This leadership role emphasizes fast-paced, high-impact journalism and collaboration with station

Qualifications

• College degree in journalism, communications or related field.
• 5–7 years of news experience with newsroom leadership and supervision.
• Oversee and produce engaging, urgent and high-value content-driven newscasts.
• Strong writing skills; experience with special programming is a plus.
• Solid social media skills and understanding of audience engagement.
• Experience with shooting, editing and content management systems.
• Strong understanding of the tenets of professional journalism.
• Organizational skills to lead in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead all daypart teams to create impactful newscasts across platforms.
• Coach producers to deliver engaging, authentic, audience-focused storytelling.
• Coach reporters and anchors to connect with viewers.
• Lead newsroom recruitment to reflect the community served.
• Shape daily and long-term coverage priorities in editorial processes.
• Use research, audience insights and analytics to guide content strategy.
• Collaborate with news leaders to align across platforms and maximize reach.
• Oversee planning and execution of special projects and community initiatives.
• Lead breaking news and severe weather coverage with urgency and accuracy.
• Perform other tasks as required by the Vice President of Content.
