Job summary

First Alert 7 / KOSA in Odessa–Midland, TX seeks a Morning/Midday News Anchor to join the team. You will anchor morning and midday newscasts on broadcast and streaming channels and deliver engaging storytelling across platforms.

The ideal candidate has prior anchoring experience, strong on‑camera presence, and a passion for journalism across TV, streaming, online and social media.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or related field, or 2 years of journalism experience.
• On-camera performance with writing, videography and editing experience.
• Knowledge of AP and broadcast style; clean driving record; valid license.

Responsibilities

• Anchor morning and midday newscasts for both broadcast and streaming channels.
• Collaborate with MMJs, producers, and digital content teams to create compelling content.
• Cover breaking regional, national, and international news using Gray resources.
• Develop expertise in a content area for recurring franchise reporting.
• Assist with copy editing, upholding journalistic standards and ethics.
• Work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary/Description:

First Alert 7 / KOSA – the top-rated, long-time news leader in Odessa-Midland, TX – is looking for a Morning/Midday News Anchor to join our news team. You will be responsible for anchoring morning and midday newscasts on both broadcast and streaming channels. The ideal candidate will have previous experience anchoring and will be passionate about storytelling on a variety of platforms including broadcast, streaming, online, and social media. Salary will be based on experience.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting in producing and anchoring multiple early morning newscasts; leading and producing the daily midday newscast.
• Collaborating with multimedia journalists (MMJ’s), newscast producers, and digital content producers to create compelling content on multiple platforms.
• Paying attention to breaking news, including regional, national, and international news, and using resources from Gray Media and others to appropriately cover those stories.
• Understanding station and corporate-provided audience research to contribute to growing audiences on all platforms.
• Monitoring newswires, social media and email for story ideas and updates.
• Developing expertise in a specific content area sufficient to create recurring franchise reporting.
• Assist in copy editing with special attention to journalistic standards, ethical decision-making and legal guidelines.
• Working flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication or a related field; two years of comparable journalism experience also acceptable.
• Demonstrable previous newsgathering experience including on-camera performance; previous news anchoring experience preferred.
• Demonstrable writing, videography and editing experience following generally accepted AP and broadcast style.
• Demonstrated knowledge of local, regional, national and international current events.
• Current driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Knowledge and experience with standard workplace software including Microsoft applications for email and word processing.
• Previous experience with ENPS, VizRT, Edius and BitCentral newsroom systems is preferred.
