Palomar Health’s New to Specialty RN program mentors experienced RNs into a focused clinical experience within Medical Surgical. Night shift 12-hour shifts and a 72-hour per pay period; the role emphasizes coordinated nursing care and day-to-day supervision of staff.

The RN will plan care with patients and families, adhere to CA Nurse Practice Act and ANA standards, and participate in patient handling and mobility. Requires CA RN license and BLS.

Qualifications

  • Current CA RN License.
  • American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year RN experience.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver coordinated nursing care for an assigned patient or group on the unit.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of nursing and ancillary staff involved in patient care.
  • Coordinate the plan of care with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team.
  • Observe patient handling, lifting, and mobilization as needed and participate in safe patient handling.

Department: Medical SurgicalUnion: CNAShift: 12-hour Shift - Night (United States of America)Hours Per Pay Period: 72Job Description: New to Specialty cohort will start October 19, 2026Pay range: $54.15 - $78.82Posting Date: 9/2/2026Internal Closing Date: 9/9/26* Internal candidates must apply by midnight on the Closing Date in order to have bidding rights.Palomar Health's New to Specialty RN program provides the experienced RN the opportunity to be mentored into a New to Specialty clinical experience.Primarily responsible for the delivery of coordinated nursing care for a patient or an assigned group of patients within an assigned unit and for the day-to-day management and supervision of the related clinical activities.Coordinates plan of care with the client, their family and the interdisciplinary team.Also responsible for supervising and responsibly directing the activities of various levels of assigned nursing and ancillary personnel, utilizing both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.Understands and adheres to the California Nurse Practice Act, The American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, the ANA Bill of Rights for Registered Nurses and the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing.The Registered Nurse shall be responsible for the observation and direction of patient lifts and mobilization and shall participate as needed in patient handling.Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position.Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet, e-mail).Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop-down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job.Performs other duties as assigned.Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards.Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.
