Job summary

Sugarbush Resort is seeking seasonal Ski and Ride School instructors to join a top-tier program in Vermont. You will teach and supervise young students in a dynamic mountain environment, delivering safe, structured lessons and fostering a fun learning experience.

This role offers on-snow training, encouraging growth, and the chance to be part of an award-winning team dedicated to guest satisfaction. Minimum 20 days of winter scheduling with potential certification-based increases.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Intermediate skier/snowboarder on groomed blue terrain.
• Previous teaching/coaching experience preferred.
• Experience working with children preferred.
• Spanish language knowledge is a plus.
• PSIA/AASI Level I–III certifications preferred.
• USSA certifications preferred.
• Available to work holidays and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Uphold safety on varied mountain terrain and in winter conditions.
• Arrive on time and prepared for duties.
• Attend morning meetings.
• Supervise children in class, including lunch and snack times.
• Instruct levels per Instructor Guide progressions, clearly and accurately.
• Provide a safe, fun learning environment through engaging class handling.
• Assist with loading children on chairlifts and Kids on Lifts policy.
• Support in registration, equipment fittings, and maintaining teaching areas.
• Communicate lesson content and progress to guardians.
• Ensure return of children to guardians.
• Follow Vermont Skier Safety Act guidelines.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Full and part-time availability with a minimum required schedule of 20 days for the winter season. This job starts at $18 per hour and increases with completed instructing certifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Uphold the highest levels of safety on varied terrain in a mountain environment, with unpredictable winter weather conditions in a fast paced, potentially high-pressure environment.
• Arrive to work on time prepared for all duties.
• Attend morning meetings.
• Supervise and assist the children in your class at all times including during lunch and snack times.
• Clearly and accurately instruct assigned levels, physically and verbally, per the progressions in our Instructor Guide.
• Provide a safe and fun learning environment through exceptional class handling and creativity.
• Assist lift attendants to properly load and unload children on the chairlift, lifting children by the vest (if applicable) in accordance with our Kids on Lifts policy.
• Assist in operational responsibilities of children’s programs including registration process, directing guests to appropriate equipment fitting source, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities.
• Communicate child’s lesson content and progress of the lesson with the identified guardian.
• Ensure the return of children to their identified guardians.
• Uphold Company guidelines and the Vermont Skier Safety Act rules and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Must be intermediate skier/snowboarder, parallel or linking turns on groomed blue terrain.
• Previous experience with teaching/coaching/mentoring and/or previous ski or snowboard instructor experience.
• Experience working with children.
• Knowledge of Spanish language is a plus.
• PSIA/AASI Level I, Level II or Level III Certification is preferred.
• USSA Certifications preferred.
• Prior ski racing, freestyle background is a plus.
• Considerations give to uncertified candidates with good skiing/riding skills, good communications skills, and enthusiasm for the sport with a passion for passing that on to others.
• Available to work holidays and weekends – calendar and scheduling requirements for new & returning staff.
• Successfully complete mandatory on snow training.
• Must be able to stand and walk on snow for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, squat and lift 50 lbs.
• Must have good guest service skills and work well in a team.
• Ability to work in inclement weather in a mountain environment.
