Job summary

Sugarbush Resort is seeking ski and ride instructors for the winter season. Work with a top-tier team at the Sugarbush Ski and Ride School, delivering engaging instruction to guests of all ages and abilities.

Join a supportive training team focused on personal and professional growth, with full and part-time schedules and a minimum commitment of 20 days for the season. Be part of Vermont's premier mountain experience.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Experience with teaching, coaching or mentoring and/or ski/snowboard instruction.
  • Knowledge of Spanish language is a plus.
  • PSIA/AAI Level I–III or USSA certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold the highest levels of safety on varied terrain in mountain conditions.
  • Attend morning meetings and arrive prepared for duties.
  • Supervise and assist children in class at all times including lunch and snack times.
  • Instruct assigned levels clearly and safely per the Instructor Guide progressions.
  • Create a safe and fun learning environment with effective class handling.

This job starts at $18 per hour and increases with completed instructing certifications.

POSITION SUMMARY

Come join the pros at the Sugarbush Ski and Ride School for your dream winter! Full and part-time availability with a minimum required schedule of 20 days for the winter season.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
  • Skill Level: Non-Certified or Certified
  • Shift Availability: Full-Time and Part-Time
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Uphold the highest levels of safety on varied terrain in a mountain environment, with unpredictable winter weather conditions in a fast paced, potentially high-pressure environment.
  • Arrive to work on time prepared for all duties.
  • Attend morning meetings.
  • Supervise and assist the children in your class at all times including during lunch and snack times.
  • Clearly and accurately instruct assigned levels, physically and verbally, per the progressions in our Instructor Guide.
  • Provide a safe and fun learning environment through exceptional class handling and creativity.
  • Assist lift attendants to properly load and unload children on the chairlift, lifting children by the vest (if applicable) in accordance with our Kids on Lifts policy.
  • Assist in operational responsibilities of children’s programs including registration process, directing guests to appropriate equipment fitting source, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Communicate child’s lesson content and progress of the lesson with the identified guardian.
  • Ensure the return of children to their identified guardians.
  • Uphold Company guidelines and the Vermont Skier Safety Act rules and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must be intermediate skier/snowboarder, parallel or linking turns on groomed blue terrain.
  • Previous experience with teaching/coaching/mentoring and/or previous ski or snowboard instructor experience.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Knowledge of Spanish language is a plus.
  • PSIA/AASI Level I, Level II or Level III Certification is preferred.
  • USSA Certifications preferred.
  • Prior ski racing, freestyle background is a plus.
  • Considerations give to uncertified candidates with good skiing/riding skills, good communications skills, and enthusiasm for the sport with a passion for passing that on to others.
  • Available to work holidays and weekends – calendar and scheduling requirements for new & returning staff.
  • Successfully complete mandatory on snow training.
  • Must be able to stand and walk on snow for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to bend, squat and lift 50 lbs.
  • Must have good guest service skills and work well in a team.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather in a mountain environment.
