Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a New Graduate Nurse for the Olathe Campus. This residency program targets ADN & BSN graduates across units including Med Surg, Cardiac Telemetry, Acute Telemetry/Renal, PCU, Ortho/Spine, Float Pool, and ECC.

RNs will utilize the nursing process to coordinate patient care, provide safe, holistic care, and mentor others. Commitment to life-long learning and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Nurses hired after September 1, 2026 without a BSN must sign an ADN-to-BSN agreement and complete a BSN by year five.
• Less than 6 months of RN experience.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to hospital policies related to medication safety, including order writing format and acceptance of medication administration practices.
• Answers patient/significant others phone calls, evaluate patient needs, and triage patient care.
• Anticipates and intervenes in safety concerns for patients and staff.
• Consistently meets work schedule.
• Role models therapeutic communication tailored to patient and family needs.
• Coordinates health care services with hospital, vendors, physician offices and other institutions.
• Delegates appropriately and demonstrates leadership within the team.
• Demonstrates critical thinking using the nursing process.
• Develops and evaluates care plans and adapts as patient conditions change.
• Identifies areas for professional growth.

The Registered Nurse (RN) Entry utilizes the nursing process to coordinate the interdisciplinary approach to patient care. He/she provides safe, therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way. He/she integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families through the continuum of care. The RN collaborates with others to integrate assessment and input of the patient, family and the interdisciplinary team. He/she ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource, preceptor, and mentor. Demonstrates leadership skills in decision-making and problem solving. The RN integrates and communicates knowledge and sensitivity to patient's psychosocial, spiritual, cultural and age specific needs. He/she practices within the boundaries of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, specialty standards and organizational/departmental policies and procedures.

• Less than 6 Months of RN Experience

Required Licensure and Certification

• Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing (Kansas) or compact license
• CPR/ AED/ BLS - Other BLS within 14 days
• Some units will require additional unit-specific affirmations/certifications/work experience
