Freeform, based in Hawthorne, California, is seeking a Process Engineer (New Grad December 2026) to help invent novel metal 3D printing processes. You will work with senior engineers across mechanical, software, and simulations teams to analyze massive in situ data and post-print material characteristics, iterating quickly with machine learning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in materials science, physics, mechanical engineering, or similar (ABET accredited).
• First principles thinker with strong physics fundamentals.
• Coursework or research in experimental design and statistical data analysis.
• Strong data analysis skills and ability to interpret large data sets.
• Experience with Python and/or MATLAB.

Responsibilities

• Support process engineering by analyzing in situ data to understand physical mechanisms of printing.
• Assist in experiments, analyze data, and develop/optimize processes on metal additive system.
• Perform post-build metrology and analyze material properties (tensile strength, surface roughness, microstructure).
• Generate and track quality metrics for printed parts (dimensional accuracy, defect distribution, surface roughness).
• Collaborate with mechanical, software, and simulations engineers to rapidly improve printing processes.
