The role emphasizes hands-on field work, collaboration with field technicians, and exposure to protective relays, arc-flash, and power quality studies, with opportunities for growth in design and client engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with graduation date on or before December 2025; Power Systems focus preferred.
  • Hands-on field work with technicians in a safety-focused environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook/Word/Excel; knowledge of power system modeling software is a plus.
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience with protective relay projects, short-circuit, arc-flash, and power quality studies is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical engineering studies including power factor analysis, harmonic modeling, grounding analysis, short-circuits, protective device coordination, and arc-flash studies for domestic and international projects.
  • Provide engineering design, analysis, and troubleshooting of protective relaying and controls.
  • Support field services during shutdowns, startups, installations, and maintenance projects.
  • Interact with customers to review engineering plans and maintain professional relationships.
  • Be hands-on with the engineering and field service group.

Position OverviewJoin our team of leaders in electrical power system maintenance, repair, testing, engineering, & training. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a New Grad Electrical Engineer - Power Studies, Associate to join our team. Shermco Industries is accredited by NETA and has one of the largest field services divisions in the industry.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Electrical Engineering Studies: Perform electrical engineering studies, including power factor analysis, harmonic modeling, grounding analysis, short-circuits, protective device coordination, and arc-flash studies for domestic and international projects.
  • Engineering Design and Analysis: Provide engineering-related design, analysis, and studies. Design and troubleshoot protective relaying and controls.
  • Field Services Support: Occasionally work with the Field Services team on shutdown, startup, installation, and maintenance projects.
  • Customer Interaction: Interact with customers to gather critical information, review engineering plans, and maintain professional relationships.
  • Hands-on Engineering: Be hands-on with the engineering and field service group.
Qualifications

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a graduation date on or before December 2025. Prefer candidates with an educational focus in Power Systems studies.
  • Field Work: Willingness to be hands-on and work in the field alongside our field technicians.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Experience using SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, EasyPower, or other power system modeling software is a plus.
  • Communication: Must be able to clearly communicate in English via verbal and written methods, and effectively communicate directly to customers and co-workers.
  • Experience: Knowledge or high level understanding of performing protective relay projects, short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc-flash, and power quality studies is a plus. Utility design experience is a plus.
