Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide basic patient care, comfort, and safety. You will support ADLs, assist with meals, and help ensure accurate documentation of vital signs and intake/output.

This role emphasizes infection control, patient safety, and teamwork within the clinical unit. No prior experience is required, and new hires must obtain BLS within 30 days of employment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Basic ability to read, write and perform basic four-function math.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology, basic computer skills, and interpersonal skills.
• New hires must obtain BLS certification within 30 days of employment.
• No prior healthcare experience required.

Responsibilities

• Care for patients under supervision and perform activities of daily living.
• Record vital signs, intake/output, and report unusual observations.
• Provide nutritional support and assist with meals.
• Perform basic clinical procedures under RN supervision.
• Support safety and infection control practices.
• Assist as a patient safety attendant when needed.
• Participate in orientation of new nursing assistants.
• Carry out additional unit-based duties as assigned.

Under supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs basic patient care activities in providing for the personal needs, comfort and safety of patients.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

A. Cares for patients as delegated by the registered nurse and completes all aspects of activities of daily living for assigned patients (refer to Delegation Competency for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel).

1. Vital Signs: May take and record the following:

• vital signs

• height and weight

• oxygen saturation

• Reports all unusual observations or reactions of the patient to the nurse assigned to the patient or charge nurse.

1. Intake and Output: Collects various specimens for analysis and measures and records intake and output.

2. Activities of Daily Living: Provides patients with personal care and assist with activities of daily living.

3. Clinical Procedures: Performs basic clinical procedures independently or under direct supervision of a nurse.

4. Nutrition: Provides for patient’s nutritional needs including assisting the patient with ordering room service, set up of meal tray, and feeds the patient as required.

5. Safety: Supports a culture of safety and carries out safety interventions for all patients.

6. Infection Control: Adheres to all applicable infection control policies and procedures.

7. Sitter: Assist as patient safety attendant after completion of required competency.

8. Orientation: Assists with orientation of new Nursing Assistant colleagues.

9. Performs additional unit-based activities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Basic Life Support/BLS Required. New Hires/transfers will have 30 days to obtain BLS certification.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Basic ability to read, write and perform basic four-function math.

Ability to obtain knowledge of medical terminology, basic personal computer skills, and interpersonal skills.

Pay Range:

$20.00 - $26.92

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
