Job summary

Scripps Research seeks a motivated Research Intern for the Encalada Laboratory to support projects at the intersection of behavioral neuroscience, imaging, and machine learning. The role offers hands-on experience in a dynamic research environment.

The intern will analyze video datasets from home-cage monitoring, help develop ML-based analysis tools, and maintain rigorous experimental and computational records while earning hourly compensation.

Qualifications

• Candidates must be currently enrolled in high school, an associate’s, a bachelor’s or a master’s program.
• Strong interest in neuroscience, imaging, and data analysis.
• Experience with Python or similar tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Analyze video datasets from home-cage monitoring systems.
• Process, organize, and curate large datasets for downstream analysis.
• Assist with behavioral analysis using machine learning and computer vision tools.
• Contribute to automated behavioral phenotyping workflows.
• Maintain accurate records of experimental and computational work.
• Support ongoing documentation and reporting of results.
