Mission or Goal of Unit

The mission of the Consultation-Liaison Division is to improve the mental health of individuals and families through clinical care, research, education and public awareness.

Chief Purpose of this position

The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a neuropsychologist in its C/L Division. The neuropsychologist will provide assessments and psychological interventions as applicable. The neuropsychologist will provide graduate and fellowship supervision and training.

Position Responsibilities
  • Clinical: Conduct neuropsychological assessments and provide therapy to a diverse adult patient population. Provide behavioral interventions, including psychoeducation and/or psychotherapeutic interventions for patients, families, and/or caregivers; behavior management; and cognitive behavior therapies. Provide consultation to interdisciplinary treatment teams; collaborate related to patient’s cognitive and behavioral strengths and weaknesses, including development and implementation of interdisciplinary intervention plans.
  • Teaching: Teaching and supervision responsibilities in the area of Neuropsychology. Provide guidance and mentorship to post-doctoral psychology fellows, and opportunities to teach psychiatry residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Scholarship: Scholarly activities, including program evaluation, research, publications, presentations at national meetings, conference presentations, and participation in appropriate academic organizations.
  • Service: Serving on university, health system, school of medicine, and department of psychiatry committees to enhance and promote the service needs and policy making functions of the university, medical center, department, and division.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology, or Neuropsychology from an APA/CPA-accredited doctoral program and internship.
  • Postdoctoral training in Neuropsychology.
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a Psychologist in Virginia.
  • Experience, competence, and expertise with neuropsychological assessment, psychological and behavioral therapies, family education and support, and behavior management.
  • Experience with education of clinical and counseling doctoral students, interns, and fellows.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Competence and experience with geriatric patients.
