Job description

Description

The Clinical Neuropsychologist, with NYS Psychology license, will provide comprehensive Neuropsychological assessment and related clinical services across New York locations, including Long Island, NYC/Brooklyn, and Westchester (Yonkers or New Rochelle), and support as needed to Northern New Jersey location (Fairfield) and as licensure allows.

The role requires formal education (PhD or PsyD) and clinical training, clinical internship and post-doctoral training in Neuropsychology, and experience in Neuropsychological assessment (and cognitive remediation services preferred), including clinical interviewing, test selection and interpretation, diagnostic formulation, comprehensive report writing, and treatment plan development.

The Neuropsychologist role requires specialization in diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders affecting the brain/central nervous system. The role requires experience working with adult patients, although experience across the lifespan (5+ to geriatric patients) is a plus. Experience is required with neurodegenerative conditions (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease), traumatic brain injury, strokes, seizure disorders, and other medical, neurological, psychiatric, and neurodevelopmental conditions.

The Clinical Neuropsychologist will manage assigned evaluations, participate in clinical consultation and case review, and collaborate with the multidisciplinary clinical team. The Neuropsychologist will consult with members of a multi-disciplinary clinical team as well as external referral sources to ensure the appropriate course of treatment. The Clinical Neuropsychologist will also supervise and lead/co‑lead cognitive remediation group sessions for patients with cognitive impairment stemming from psychiatric, neurological, medical, and neurodevelopmental conditions.

  • Conduct comprehensive Neuropsychological evaluations under the direction of the Chief of Neuropsychology to assess cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and psychological functioning in individuals with conditions such as traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, dementia, ADHD, learning disorders, and other neurological, medical, psychiatric, or neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Complete clinical interviews, review relevant medical and clinical records, select appropriate assessment measures, interpret test results, and integrate findings into comprehensive Neuropsychological reports.
  • Develop clinically appropriate diagnostic impressions, recommendations, and individualized treatment or rehabilitation plans based on exam findings and patient needs.
  • Provide evidence‑based therapeutic interventions, as appropriate within scope of evaluation and cognitive remediation treatment, including cognitive‑behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness‑based strategies, and trauma‑focused approaches to support patients experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, psychosocial adjustment difficulties, and other concerns related to Neurological, medical, psychiatric, or neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Participate in clinical consultation and case review with the Chief of Neuropsychology, including discussion of complex cases, diagnostic considerations, and treatment recommendations.
  • Provide clinical services for injured workers (workers’ compensation) and patients injured in motor vehicle accident (no‑fault) cases when applicable, including Neuropsychological evaluation, treatment recommendations, and coordination with appropriate clinical and rehabilitation resources.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, when clinically appropriate, to coordinate comprehensive care and support return‑to‑function or return‑to‑work goals.
  • Provide services across designated New York locations, including Long Island, NYC/Brooklyn, and Westchester, with Northern New Jersey coverage as needed and as licensure allows.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including Neuropsychological evaluation reports, treatment progress notes and treatment plans, in accordance with professional, regulatory, and organizational standards.
  • Support the continued growth and development of PAX Health’s Neuropsychology Division.
  • Abide by PAX Health ethics and model values.
  • Other clinical and administrative duties as needed within the scope of the role.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology with a sub‑specialty in Neuropsychology from an accredited doctoral program.
  • Formal clinical training in Neuropsychology: Neuropsychology‑focused internship and postdoctoral training.
  • Early‑career and recently licensed Neuropsychologists with appropriate Neuropsychological training and experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience conducting comprehensive Neuropsychological evaluations, including clinical interviewing, test selection, administration and/or oversight of test administration, scoring, interpretation, diagnostic formulation, and report writing.
  • Active New York Psychologist license required.
  • New Jersey Psychologist licensure is preferred but not required at the time of hire.
  • Strong clinical interviewing, assessment, diagnostic, and report writing skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate evaluation findings and recommendations to patients, families, referral sources, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team.
  • Ability to provide services across designated New York locations based on clinical and operational needs.
