Job Summary

The Neuropsychologist assesses, diagnoses and treats patients with behavioral, psychiatric or cognitive disorders resulting from brain injury or disease. The Neuropsychologist provides a broad range of comprehensive neuropsychological services (e.g. assessments, evaluations, education) dealing with complex issues related to the complete range of neurocognitive disorders and traumatic brain injuries as well as complex psychiatric and comorbid medical conditions. This position requires additional clinical and educational training beyond what is required for a clinical or counseling psychologist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Independently conduct a wide range of neuropsychological services that include, but are not limited to, assessment of cognitive, emotional, psychological, and behavioral functional concerns.
  • Work in consultation with interdisciplinary team members to facilitate accurate diagnosis, patient education, and treatment planning. Consult with patient care teams to develop tailored treatment plans that meet the specific needs of the patient.
  • Provide screening for cognitive deficits to address specific functional questions or to determine whether a complete neuropsychological evaluation is needed and/or make referrals to appropriate services to meet the medical needs of the patient.
  • Perform assessments to support decision-making when there are questions about a patient’s ability to make medical decisions, perform other specific functions or live independently, and provide recommendations to clinical interdisciplinary teams.
  • Provide clinical neuropsychological supervision of psychology interns, practicum students and residents in psychiatry.
  • Provide neurocognitive didactics for psychology interns and practicum students, psychiatry residents, faculty, and other medical professionals.
  • Consult with physicians and staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.
  • Develop individualized care plans as necessary and appropriate.
  • Monitor patients’ progress and adjust treatment plans as appropriate when requested by care team.
  • Monitor guidelines for the management of care and for ensuring that services are delivered in compliance with the guidelines established by JPS Health Network and Acclaim Physician Group.
  • Provide evidence-based and compassionate care to all patients as assigned to improve patient outcomes and increase patient satisfaction scores. Demonstrates patient-centered and patient-valued behavior.
  • Maintain a collaborative environment with other referring physicians, residents, clinical staff, and support staff to provide quality patient care.
  • Support academic, educational, and research endeavors.
  • Attend Performance Improvement Programs and Peer Review committee meetings; and be an active participant in this process when requested.
  • Partner and communicate with the neuropsychological service to build a positive brand and a positive patient/customer experience for those who encounter Acclaim/JPS Health Network, including health network staff, vendors, outside partners, patients, stakeholders, and local community leaders.
  • Serve as a community resource.

Qualifications
  • PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology
  • Documentation of successful completion of a 2-year neuropsychology postdoctoral/fellowship program.
  • Education Requirement
    • Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) at the time the program was completed, OR a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and successful completion of a respecialization program meeting both of the following conditions: (a) the specialization program must be completed in an APA or an APPIC accredited doctoral-level clinical psychology training program; (b) the specialty in which retraining occurred was consistent with the training needed to be a neuropsychologist and included a dissertation that was primarily psychological in nature.
  • Internship Requirement
    • Successful completion of a clinical or counseling psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or APPIC at the time of completion.
  • Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training
    • Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in the State of Texas, or be eligible for Texas Board licensure as outlined by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council.
