Yale New Haven Health is seeking a Neuro Telemetry Technician to monitor neurophysiologic data, annotate events, and escalate issues following standardized protocols. This pre-registry role emphasizes EEG knowledge and analytical accuracy within a multidisciplinary team.
The position supports clinical operations, quality initiatives, and approved research activities, with opportunity for growth toward ABRET EEG credentials and ongoing professional development.
To be part of our organization, every employee should understand and share in the YNHHS Vision, support our Mission, and live our Values. These values - integrity, patient-centered, respect, accountability, and compassion - must guide what we do, as individuals and professionals, every day.
The Neuro Telemetry Technician is a bachelor's-prepared neurophysiology professional who provides continuous and retrospective surveillance and structured annotation of neurophysiologic data in support of clinical operations, quality initiatives, education, and approved research activities. Working under the direction of credentialed neurophysiology personnel and designated clinical or research leadership, the Neuro Telemetry Technician identifies and documents predefined clinical, behavioral, technical, environmental, and potential neurophysiologic events using standardized annotation and escalation protocols. The position requires foundational EEG knowledge and prior EEG experience. The Neuro Telemetry Technician understands electrode placement, basic montages, recording integrity, common artifacts, and foundational waveform and pattern-recognition concepts. Following documented competency validation, the Neuro Telemetry Technician may perform defined technical procedures such as patient preparation, routine electrode application, equipment setup, impedance and data-quality checks, troubleshooting, and patient disconnects. This is a specialized pre-registry position and is distinct from the Neurophysiology Technologist I trainee role. It requires a bachelor's degree and prior EEG experience so that the employee can contribute to neurotelemetry and protocol-directed research activities upon completion of role‑specific orientation. The position does not independently interpret EEG findings or render diagnostic conclusions.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in neuroscience, biology, physiology, psychology, cognitive science, biomedical sciences, health sciences, or another related scientific or clinical discipline. Preferred Education: - Formal coursework in neuroscience, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, electrophysiology, research methods, statistics, or data science. - Completion of, or enrollment in, a recognized neurodiagnostic technology/clinical neurophysiology education program. - Academic or applied research experience involving human participants, physiologic signals, clinical data, or time-series data. - Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subject Protection (HSP) certification; HIPAA training.
Required Experience: A minimum of six months of EEG experience in a clinical, educational, research, or closely related neurophysiology environment. - Demonstrated exposure to EEG acquisition or review systems, electrode placement, basic montages, waveform display, common artifacts, recording-quality assessment, and event documentation. Preferred Experience: - Twelve months or more of EEG, epilepsy monitoring, neurotelemetry, continuous EEG, or neurophysiologic data-review experience. - Experience in an epilepsy monitoring unit, inpatient neurodiagnostic service, continuous monitoring program, or clinical research environment. - Experience reviewing and annotating synchronized EEG, video, audio, behavioral, or other physiologic data.
- No professional neurodiagnostic registry is required at the time of hire. - Basic Life Support certification is required. - Completion and maintenance of all required institutional compliance, patient‑privacy, human-subject protection, and study‑specific research training when assigned to research activities. - The employee is expected to obtain an accepted neurodiagnostic credential in EEG within 24 months of hire or within 24 months of becoming eligible to sit for the applicable examination, whichever is later.
- Foundational knowledge of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, EEG terminology, electrode-placement principles, EEG montages, polarity, frequency, amplitude, and common biologic and technical artifacts. - Ability to recognize and document predefined clinical, behavioral, technical, environmental, and potential neurophysiologic events without independently rendering a diagnostic interpretation. - Ability to distinguish potential physiologic activity from common artifact and routine variation sufficiently to annotate and elevate observations according to protocol. - Ability to monitor synchronized EEG, video, audio, and other physiologic signals and enter precise, time-synchronized annotations. - Ability to conduct protocol-directed retrospective review and annotation of neurophysiologic recordings. - Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain sustained vigilance during continuous monitoring and data-review assignments. - Ability to follow standardized annotation taxonomies, research protocols, data dictionaries, technical procedures, and escalation pathways consistently. - Proficiency with neurodiagnostic acquisition and review platforms, electronic health records, secure research systems, and standard data-management applications. - Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to convey time-sensitive observations to clinical and research team members. - Understanding of patient privacy, human-subject protections, research confidentiality, and appropriate handling of protected, coded, or limited datasets. - Ability to work independently within defined protocols while recognizing circumstances that require escalation or review by appropriately credentialed or licensed personnel. - Ability to function effectively in a 24/7 clinical and research support environment, including assigned evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as operationally required.
