Job summary

Parkland Health seeks a Neurodiagnostic Technologist to perform routine EEG procedures and support physicians with diagnostic data. The role may expand to more complex studies as skills develop, with emphasis on accuracy, patient care, and proper documentation.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma and EEG program experience; BLS certification is assumed through healthcare norms. This full-time night position supports Parkland's public health mission in Dallas.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; EEG program preferred.
  • For NCV/EMG, same basic education applies; EEG program preferred.
  • Experience in neurodiagnostic settings and clinical rotations helps.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine Neurodiagnostic procedures for physicians' diagnostics.
  • May conduct complex Neurodiagnostic procedures as skills advance.
  • Maintain electrodes, review patient data, and ensure interpretable results.
  • Complete all documentation and maintain equipment and supplies.

Fulltime Nights

Primary Purpose

Performs routine and complex Neurodiagnostic procedures for patients as directed, providing physicians diagnostic tools with which to treat patients.

Education
  • EEG: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited EEG or other neurodiagnostic technician program is preferred.
  • For NCV/EMG Technologist: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited EEG or other neurodiagnostic technician program preferred.
Experience
  • Experience EEG: Prior experience in a neurodiagnostic setting including clinical rotations or internships is required.
  • For NCV/EMG Technologist: Prior experience in a neurodiagnostic setting which includes clinical rotations or internships is preferred.
  • Six months experience preforming NCV studies.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience

May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

Must have a current healthcare provider BLS for Healthcare Providers certification before date of hire and/or placement in job from one of the following: American Heart Association American Red Cross Military Training Network Current incumbents in the role as of 8/1/2023 must obtain a health care provider BLS for Healthcare Providers certification no later than 11/31/2023.

Skills or Special Abilities
  • Must be able to perform routine EEG procedures independently.
  • Must be able to distinguish EEG abnormalities and respond appropriately.
  • Must be able to learn advanced EEG procedures.
  • Must be able to work with personal computers including word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Must have good communication skills necessary in handling difficult and severely ill patients.
  • Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the performance of routine Neurodiagnostic procedures for use by physicians as a diagnostic tool.
  • May perform complex Neurodiagnostic procedures as skills advance.
  • Maintains electrodes, reviews and edits patient data to provide interpretable results.
  • Completes all paperwork.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with other employees, physicians, patients and family members.
  • Responsible for stocking supplies and preparing test areas.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots equipment as skills advance in order to ensure effective operations.
