Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) EMU in Galveston, TX is seeking a skilled Electroneurodiagnostic professional to perform EEG, IONM, LTM, EP, and NCV studies. The role includes precepting Neurodiagnostic Technologist I and advancing testing capabilities within a leading epilepsy program.

Ideal candidates hold an associates degree in END or related field, 3+ years of experience, UTMB-approved credentialing in R. EEG T., CNIM, R.NCS.T., R.

Qualifications

• Associates degree from a CAAHEP-accredited END or related program or equivalent.
• Three (3) years experience performing procedures in area of competence.
• Credentialed through a UTMB approved agency in R. EEG T., CNIM, R.NCS.T., R. EP.T., or CLTM.
• Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Establishes lab protocols according to ACNS Guidelines.
• Prepares and mentors Neurodiagnostic Technologists I.
• Performs electroneurodiagnostic studies per written protocols.
• Explains procedures to patients and records medical history.
• Applies standard 10/20 electrode placement.
• Records studies and adapts test protocols based on history and ongoing data.
• Recognizes normal/abnormal variants and troubleshooting.
• Monitors and reviews raw data and video recordings.
• Completes and archives EEG and video data for interpretation.

JOB DESCRIPTION

To provide advanced technical skills necessary to perform one or more of the following electroneurodiagnostic procedures: electroencephalogram (EEG), intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM), long term monitoring (LTM), evoked potential (EP), and nerve conduction studies (NCV). Serves as preceptor and mentor for Neurodiagnostic Technologist I.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Establishes lab protocols according to American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS) Guidelines.
• Participates in tutoring, demonstrating, and mentoring other team members.
• Performs electroneurodiagnostic studies as per written protocols.
• Explains procedures to patient, elicits and records medical history from patient and/or chart.
• Applies standard scalp electrodes to meet the standard 10/20 placement.
• Records the studies and independently makes alteration of the test protocol based on history and on the ongoing study. Recognize normal and abnormal variants in study recording and acts accordingly.
• Recognizes and corrects electrical and electronic malfunction.
• Monitors and reviews raw study and video data.
• Prepares the completed hard copy of neurodiagnostic studies for interpretation.
• Completes the “Technician Impression” sheet which serves as the preliminary report.
• Edits and archives EEG and video data of patients’ Video/EEG monitoring.
• Competently performs routine inpatient and outpatient neurodiagnostic procedures.
• Sets up and provides assistance with area specific neurodiagnostic procedures.
• Provides for patient safety related to age and condition.
• Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times.
• Provides and maintain a clean, safe environment, free of obstacles, and conducive to a professional environment.
• Maintains isolation procedures and follows infection control measures.
• Maintains patient care areas with appropriate supplies and equipment. Notifies the Senior Neurodiagnostic Technologist and/or on-coming staff when equipment is missing or broken.
• Assists with patient requests for other hospital services.
