Job summary

Hartford HealthCare in Hartford, CT, seeks a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join the Neurocritical Care team at Hartford Hospital. APPs are part of a multidisciplinary team delivering care for complex neuroscience patients, including stroke, neurosurgery, and epilepsy, rotating through ICU and step-down units.

The role is inpatient in Neurocritical Care with three 13-hour shifts per week, no call, and comprehensive benefits, CME support, and tuition assistance.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in a critical care or neurocritical care setting.
  • Licensed as Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with board eligibility or full certification.
  • Active licensure in Connecticut or eligibility to obtain licensure in CT.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine physical examinations and develop medical, educational, and psychosocial plans.
  • Coordinate and consult with physicians and care teams for further evaluation and referrals.
  • Provide treatment within scope of practice and participate in ICU/step-down rounds.

Position Details

Hartford Hospital seeks a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join their Neurocritical Care team. The Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are part of a multidisciplinary team that plans and delivers care for critical neuroscience patients, focusing on neurological and neurosurgical diseases and related disorders. The patient population includes complex strokes, skull base surgery, status epilepticus, tumor resections, spinal cord injury, DBS, and other complex conditions. APPs rotate in the intensive care unit and step‑down units.

Role Scope

Under established guidelines and in collaboration or supervision with the practice physician(s), APPs perform routine physical examinations, formulate medical, educational, and psychosocial plans, and treat patients within their scope of practice. In consultation with the physician(s) and care team members, APPs develop plans for further evaluation and refer to specialists when appropriate. APPs provide appropriate treatment for problems within their scope and refer outside cases to physicians.
