Job summary

Peraton seeks a driven Network Technician to join the Network and Unified Communications Architecture team in Washington, DC.

You will provide Tier II escalated support, expert troubleshooting, remote diagnostics, and systems analysis to accelerate issues to Tier III engineers. Responsibilities include evaluating LAN/WAN performance, network tuning, and implementing Layer 2/3 concepts to ensure high availability.

Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance required.
  • Must work 24/7 Panama shift.
  • Bachelor's in IT/related field + 5+ years experience; or equivalent.
  • DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II.
  • CompTIA Network+ certification.
  • Experience with Cisco/Juniper devices, VLANs, VPNs, LAN/WAN.
  • Experience in 2–3 areas: network troubleshooting, routers/switches, Cisco IOS/Junos, firewalls, NetScout/Wireshark, SolarWinds, Call Manager Unity, DNS, QoS, VPN.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate LAN/WAN performance and bottlenecks.
  • Provide LAN/WAN support with network analysis and tuning.
  • Ensure overall network performance and availability.
  • Analyze client LANs/WANs and implement new hardware as needed.
  • Implement Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts.

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a driven Network Technician to join our dynamic Network and Unified Communications Architecture team in Washington, DC.

Peraton has served as the prime contractor for this program since its inception in the 1980's. We provide high-level government leaders with reliable secure voice, video, and fax communications anytime, anywhere, in any environment in support of day-to-day operations. We support a secure, worldwide, high-performance communications network comprised of real-time interactive applications allowing complex national and worldwide communications. Peraton provides the O&M of the network infrastructure and its components. We provide integration for development of hardware and software solutions, and engineering support for the delivery of system, network, software, and security solutions.

In this role, you will provide Tier II Escalated support for in-depth troubleshooting, advanced problem resolution, remote diagnostics and systems analysis, and accelerate unresolved issues to Tier III engineers.

The Network Technician is responsible for but not limited to:

  • Evaluate LAN/WAN performance and capacities to identify problem areas or bottlenecks.
  • Perform a variety of network management services related to the operation, performance, or availability of data communications networks.
  • Responsibility for overall performance and availabilityof networks.
  • Provide LAN/WAN support with skillin network analysis, integration, and tuning.
  • Analyze client LANs/WANs, isolate source of problemsrecommends reconfiguration and implementation of new network hardware toincrease performance.
  • Implement networking technologies and concepts (such as Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols).
Qualifications

Required:

  • An active/current TS/SCI Security Clearance is required.
  • Must be able to work shift schedule (Panama) supporting 24/7 operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree inan IT related field and 5+ years of related experience or a commensurate combination of education, training and experience, is required;four years of relevant experience in the above-cited duties may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II.
  • CompTIA Network+ Certification.
  • Experience and understanding with Cisco and Juniper devices, VLANs, VPNs, LAN/WAN technologies, and/or routing & switching.
  • Experience in two (2) to three (3) of the following areas:
    • Network troubleshooting
    • Routers/switches
    • Cisco IOS/Junos OS
    • Firewalls
    • NetScout/Wireshark or any other packet investigation/analysis tools
    • SolarWinds monitoring or database tools
    • Call Manager & unity or other OSCP, DNS, QoS, VPN
  • Operational experience with local and wide area network infrastructures (including routers, firewalls, switches, servers, and related hardware).
  • Previous experience supporting a Government and/or Department of Defense customer.

Desired:

  • A current/valid CCNA certification.
  • Ability to generate documentation that describes standard operating procedures, which will be used by help desk personnel.
  • Experience with application of DoD IAVAs and STIGs.
  • Proficient in network monitoring/management systems familiarity.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong investigative drive and listening skills, self-motivated individuals.
  • The ability to work under pressure and be flexible with their time.
  • Ability to prioritize and document tasks is a plus.

Target Salary Range
$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
