Located in the Midco footprint (KS, MN, ND, SD, WI) with relocation if outside the area. Roles progress from Technician I to III based on experience and training, with a base wage and potential bonuses.

Job Summary

As a Network Technician, you are responsible for the implementation, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of Midco's network infrastructure. Network Technicians support the full network lifecycle, including installations, upgrades, maintenance activities, incident resolution, disaster recovery, security, and documentation. You will partner with the Network Operations Center (NOC), engineering teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure, and high-performing network services. Position levels range from Network Technician I through Network Technician III, reflecting increasing levels of technical expertise, responsibility and operational impact.

Job Summary

Responsibilities

Execute MOPs to implement network changes and software updates.
Monitor systems, alarms, and ticketing queues to identify and address network issues.
Recognize, troubleshoot, and resolve network-related incidents and service disruptions.
Support network installations, upgrades, maintenance activities, and lifecycle management.
Install, examine, test, and maintain network equipment, circuits, and associated infrastructure.
Assist as "smart hands" in lab and production environments, including racking, stacking, cabling, and powering equipment.
Work closely with the Network Operations Center (NOC) to maintain network stability and performance.
Test and troubleshoot transport, routing, switching, and access network technologies.
Collaborate on projects and departmental initiatives to achieve team and organizational goals.
Engage vendors and manufacturers to assist with troubleshooting and issue resolution.
Maintain accurate technical documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, security controls, and operational procedures.
Support network security practices and assist in protecting the network from unauthorized access or attacks.
Organize and coordinate maintenance activities and upgrades to minimize service disruption.
Support disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity processes for network systems.
Share knowledge, best practices, and technical expertise with team members.
Perform technical assignments independently while escalating issues appropriately.
Operate and drive a company vehicle in compliance with all Midco policies and procedures, ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to traffic laws.

Required Qualifications

High school Diploma or equivalent(GED).
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. A DUI conviction within the past 5 years will result in disqualification from employment in this position.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field.
Industry certification such as CCNA, Network+, JNCIA, or equivalent.
Knowledge of TCP/IP, OSI Model, SNMP, IPv4/IPv6, routing, and switching technologies.
Familiarity with DOCSIS, PON, optical transport, or carrier network architecture.
Proficiency with Cisco, Infinera, or similar networking platforms.
Understanding of network security principles, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices.
Exposure to network monitoring, ticketing, and configuration management tools.
Background in a telecommunications, internet service provider, network operations, or technology support environment.

Note: Team Members will be assigned a level based on the required experience and training. Advancement is sequential and contingent upon successful completion of all requirements at the preceding level, including certificates, proficiency tests, and time-in-role or equivalent experience where applicable.

Position Levels and Position Requirements | Additional Responsibilities

Network Technician I - Implementation & Support
- 1 year minimum network experience.
Network Technician II - Implementation & Support
- 3 years minimum network experience.
- Demonstrate understanding of TCP/IP, OSI Model, SNMP, IPv4/IPv6, and other common networking standards and protocols.
- Perform complex troubleshooting and problem resolution with minimal guidance.
- Actively support network design, maintenance, and optimization efforts across network platforms.
- Serve as a technical resource for complex network issues and project work.
Network Technician III - Implementation & Support
- 5 years minimum network experience.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of DOCSIS, PON, Infinera transport, Cisco networking equipment, and related network technologies.
- Lead complex network implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting efforts.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for network technologies and operational processes.
- Mentor and develop team members while providing technical leadership and guidance.

The hiring range for this position is $26/hour to $39/hour. In addition to the base wage, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based on company and/or individual performance.

Work Environment

May need to sit or remain stationary for extended periods of time.
May be required to work in office, lab, data center, central office, headend, or field environments.
Extremely time-sensitive deadlines to support network availability, maintenance activities, and service restoration efforts.
Team member may be required to work more than 40 hours per week.
Participation in an on-call rotation is required, including responding to network incidents, outages, and business needs outside of regular working hours.
May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or other non-standard hours to support maintenance activities, project implementations, network upgrades, or service restoration efforts.
Occasional travel may be required to support network installations, maintenance, training, or business needs.

Physical Demands

May occasionally be required to reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl while installing, inspecting, or troubleshooting network equipment.
Frequent keyboard, mouse, and monitor usage with repetitive movements.
Ability to work in equipment rooms, data centers, headends, central offices, or other network facilities.
The team member may occasionally lift, move, and/or carry loads of up to 50 lbs.
May occasionally work around network, power, and telecommunications equipment.
