Job summary

Moses Weitzman Health System is seeking a Network Specialist to design, implement, and maintain its network infrastructure in a security-conscious environment.

You will analyze, monitor, and optimize LAN/WAN connectivity, collaborate with IT and business teams, and support system integrations while maintaining documentation and change controls. Local on-site work in Middletown, CT is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, CS, or related field, or 7+ years of equivalent experience.
  • Preferred certifications include Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Security+, GIAC, MS Security Engineer.
  • Extensive experience administering Cisco and Fortinet technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Support and lead initiatives to plan, implement, and upgrade network infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to execute network activities on schedule.

The Network Specialist is a member of a multidisciplinary team and reports to the Director of Cyber Security and Network Operations at the Moses Weitzman Health System.

This role supports—and may lead, when appropriate—activities related to the design, implementation, administration, and maintenance of the Moses Weitzman Health System network infrastructure. Responsibilities include analyzing and monitoring network performance, providing technical support, troubleshooting issues through resolution, performing system maintenance, and optimizing local and wide area network connectivity.

The Network Specialist is also responsible for installing, upgrading, configuring, and maintaining network equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, wireless infrastructure, and other network devices in accordance with established standards.

Additionally, this role collaborates with IT and business departments to support system integration, maintenance, issue resolution, documentation, and procurement activities as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Support and, when appropriate, lead initiatives related to the planning, implementation, enhancement, modification, and replacement of network infrastructure components
  • Collaborate with IT management, project managers, team leads, and business stakeholders to execute network-related activities within defined timelines
  • Research network products, services, protocols, and standards to support procurement and development efforts
  • Monitor and analyze performance across LAN, WAN, and wireless networks
  • Ensure stable operation, high availability, and optimal performance of the Moses Weitzman Health System network environment
  • Identify, recommend, and remediate network performance issues

Network Administration

  • Administer and maintain network infrastructure, including configuration, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management of network devices
  • Manage network configurations, backups, and version control in accordance with change management procedures
  • Maintain network access controls, including VLANs, segmentation, NAC, and firewall rule administration
  • Perform routine system maintenance, including firmware updates, patching, and hardware replacements
  • Ensure network documentation (topology diagrams, configurations, procedures) is accurate and up to date
  • Participate in change management processes, including planning, testing, and implementing network changes

Implementation & Support

  • Install and configure network hardware, including firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points, cabling, and UPS systems
  • Provide Tier II/III network support and troubleshoot complex network issues through resolution
  • Support system integrations across clinical and business applications

Security & Monitoring

  • Perform security baseline configurations, vulnerability scans, forensic analysis, and support penetration testing efforts
  • Actively monitor systems for potential intrusions using approved tools and escalate concerns immediately
  • Support risk assessments by identifying vulnerabilities, recommending controls, documenting findings, and assisting with remediation plans
  • Enforce Moses Weitzman Health System IT security policies, standards, and best practices
  • Participate in incident response activities, including detection, response, and recovery

Performance & Optimization

  • Conduct capacity planning and proactively address current and future performance bottlenecks
  • Analyze network trends and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, scalability, and security

Communication & Collaboration

  • Communicate complex network and security concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaborate across IT and business teams to ensure alignment with organizational goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field, or 7+ years of equivalent experience
  • Preferred certifications include:
    • Cisco CCNA
    • CompTIA Security+
    • GIAC Certification
    • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (Security)
