Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in related network functions.
• Top-Secret clearance is required.
• CCENT and CompTIA Security+ are preferred certifications.
• Strong understanding of LAN, WAN, MAN concepts and practices.
• Ability to troubleshoot and document network issues clearly and concisely.
• Familiarity with network monitoring tools and capacity planning.

Overview

The Work

The Network Specialist, Junior will play a pivotal role in supporting the organization’s information systems infrastructure. This position requires a foundational understanding of network systems to contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of Local Area Networks (LAN), Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN), and Wide Area Networks (WAN). The candidate will provide technical guidance, troubleshoot performance issues, and ensure the stability of network operations. Additionally, the Network Specialist will interact with vendor support services and contribute to capacity planning and escalation procedures.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance for the direction and monitoring of information systems operations, ensuring maximum network efficiency.
• Design, build, implement, and maintain network systems, including LAN, MAN, and WAN infrastructures.
• Direct and oversee the compilation of records and reports related to network operations and maintenance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network performance issues, ensuring timely resolution and root cause analysis.
• Analyze network traffic metrics to help optimize performance and provide capacity planning recommendations.
• Actively monitor and address complex hardware and software issues within technical control facilities.
• Collaborate with vendor support service organizations to facilitate escalation processes during outages or periods of degraded system performance.
• Manage end-to-end processes for the procurement, testing, installation, and support of network communications hardware and software.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in related network functions is preferred.
• Certifications (Preferred): Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT).
• Certifications (Preferred): CompTIA Security+, or other equivalent certifications.
• Strong understanding of basic networking concepts, protocols, and practices.
• Proficiency in analyzing and troubleshooting network performance issues and providing efficient solutions.
• Familiarity with network monitoring tools and techniques for ensuring system uptime and performance.
• Ability to work collaboratively with technical teams and liaise with vendor service groups to address network challenges.
• Knowledge of network hardware/software configurations and capacity planning strategies.
• Effective communication and documentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• A Top-Secret Security Clearance is required.
• Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a clear, professional, and articulate manner.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail.
• Proven ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast past environment with changing priorities; adaptable to change and a quick learner.
• Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as on a multi-functional team.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
• Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• High-pressure decision-making during network outages and during critical project deadlines may require strong problem-solving capabilities and stress management skills.

Working Conditions

• Professional office environment, with the ability to work onsite in the main office.
• May require lifting and carrying computer or networking equipment (e.g., servers and routers) weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent use of tools, cables, and other equipment to perform installations and repairs.
• Ability to move around technical spaces, such as server rooms or data centers, which may involve bending, kneeling, or climbing ladders.
• Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
• Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
• May require working in high-security areas under strict access controls due to sensitive information or classified materials.
