Oceanus Marine Technologies is building the operating platform for the modern maritime world.
Global trade runs on ships, and we’re redefining what’s possible at sea by leveraging modern technology.

We’re a small, hands-on team based in El Segundo building full-stack systems that perform in real operating conditions across vessels, ports, and fleets. We focus on practical, deployable technology that brings safety oversight, automation, and coordination to complex maritime environments.
Our founding team previously built and operated SpaceX’s Autonomous Spaceport Droneships, which are among the most advanced autonomous maritime systems ever deployed. Today, we work with leading U.S. operators to bring that same rigor and systems thinking to the next generation of maritime infrastructure.

About The Role

Oceanus is hiring a Network Infrastructure Engineer to own the critical compute and network infrastructure that enables our platform to operate reliably onboard vessels.
You will design the network architecture and compute stack deployed with Oceanus systems, select and procure the necessary hardware, provision and configure equipment, and lead installation and integration onboard vessels. You’ll work closely with Oceanus’s hardware and software teams, vessel operators, customer-managed IT providers, and connectivity partners such as Starlink and VSAT providers.
This is a highly hands‑on role. The engineer will own the full lifecycle of the infrastructure they design, from component selection and physical wiring through configuration, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. The systems must be rugged, secure, maintainable, and reliable in constrained, industrial environments where physical access and connectivity may be limited.
Their primary focus will be vessel infrastructure and deployments. A smaller portion of the role will support Oceanus’s internal IT environment, including employee access, device provisioning, cloud systems, and infrastructure for our office and hardware test facility.
This is an opportunity to own the hardware‑to‑connectivity layer that makes Oceanus’s platform possible and to help bring modern compute and networking infrastructure to an industry that is ready for it.

Key Responsibilities
  • Network & compute architecture: Design, implement, and evolve the network architecture and onboard compute stack supporting Oceanus systems, accounting for security, limited bandwidth, intermittent connectivity, harsh operating conditions, and future scale.
  • Vessel integration: Define how Oceanus‑controlled infrastructure interfaces with customer‑managed vessel networks, IT providers, and connectivity services such as Starlink and VSAT.
  • Hardware selection & lifecycle: Select, source, provision, and manage ruggedized compute, networking hardware, cabling, enclosures, and supporting components, improving reliability, standardization, cost, and serviceability as deployments scale.
  • Edge Systems & Device Management: Provision and administer Linux‑based compute and edge infrastructure, including remote device management and edge compute products.
  • Deployment & field execution: Own the infrastructure portion of vessel deployments from planning through physical wiring, routing, mounting, installation, configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Build repeatable deployment procedures and maintain clear system and configuration documentation.
  • Reliability, security & compliance: Monitor network and component health, establish reliability metrics, and build systems for secure remote monitoring, troubleshooting, and recovery. Use field data to continuously improve the system and stay current on relevant Coast Guard cybersecurity requirements and broader security and compliance needs.
  • External technical partnerships: Work directly with vessel operators, customer IT teams, managed service providers, installers, and connectivity providers, serving as the primary technical owner for infrastructure integration.
  • Internal IT: Support Oceanus’s internal cloud systems, employee access, device provisioning, office networking, and infrastructure for the office and hardware test facility.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ yrs of experience designing, implementing, and securing production network architectures, including routing, switching, segmentation, firewalls, and secure remote connectivity.
  • Hands‑on Linux systems administration and edge or on‑premises compute experience.
  • Experience specifying, sourcing, provisioning, and supporting compute and networking hardware.
  • Experience deploying infrastructure in an industrial, remote, ruggedized, or mission‑critical environment.
  • Strong physical‑layer understanding, including cabling, installation, and component selection.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex failures across hardware, networking, connectivity, operating systems, and applications.
  • Willingness to participate directly in vessel installations and field deployments.
  • Ability to work aboard vessels and in industrial environments, including tight quarters and varying outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers, managed service providers, vendors, installers, and connectivity partners.
Preferred Skills And Experience
  • Experience with maritime systems, launch or ground systems, aerospace, defense, energy, industrial automation, telecommunications, or other mission‑critical infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting telemetry, operational video, controls, or high‑volume data flows.
  • Experience configuring and operating edge networking platforms such as UniFi Network, MikroTik RouterOS, or comparable systems.
  • Familiarity with Starlink, VSAT, LTE, or other remote connectivity systems.
  • Experience with ZEDEDA or comparable edge‑management platforms.
  • Familiarity with Coast Guard cybersecurity requirements or other externally regulated environments.
  • Experience supporting SOC 2, ISO 27001, or a similar security framework.
  • Experience creating repeatable deployment standards, reliability metrics, and remote troubleshooting systems.
Work Environment
  • On‑site with the team at our office in El Segundo, CA
  • 25% travel to test sites or operator locations as needed
Compensation And Benefits

We are open to a wide range of experience levels. The expected salary range for this role is $125,000 - $180,000. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and scope of the role. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous Equity participation
  • Fully stocked kitchen and catered lunch every day
  • Onsite EV charging
  • Flex Paid time off and company holidays
