Job summary

Google is seeking a Network Implementation Engineer to lead deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks globally. You will coordinate with Technical Program Managers, Network Engineers, Design and Infrastructure Engineers, and vendors to position the team for success.

The role aims to build the world’s most reliable, scalable network to support Google’s users worldwide, with more than 50% travel during peak project cycles and a focus on end-to-end network delivery from site

• Oversee and QA installation technicians for rack, stack and installation of networking equipment.
• Commission and test routers, optical transport equipment, and other network devices in Google's global network.
• Generate implementation plans and provide technical leadership during deployment activities.
• Collaborate with project management, network engineering and rest of the engineering team to identify potential problems in network installations.
• Own network documentation, updating and maintaining network drawings and plans.

Job description

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering or Telecom Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3 years of experience in DWDM or TCP/IP or system design operations methodology.
• 3 years of experience in carrier-class environments, including Layer 1 physical infrastructure (DWDM, AC/DC power, OSP/ISP) and Layer 2/3 networking (TCP/IP, routing).
• Experience working with field operation technicians, engineers, contractors, vendors in telecommunications environment.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Layer 1 optical transmissions systems, layer 3 routing TCP/IP, wireless networking, network design, or operations.
• Experience interpreting and validating deployment packages (including orders and construction specs) to verify design accuracy and escalating discrepancies to engineering partners before installation.
• Experience identifying recurring errors in deployment packages or specifications and driving feedback loops to improve design accuracy and operational efficiency.
• Experience with Linux (e.g., running commands, moving directories).
• Familiarity with network automation tools, scripting, or SQL to query databases and track deployment consistency.
• Familiarity with network troubleshooting and testing tools.

As a Network Implementation Engineer, you will be the initial point of our efforts to execute deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks worldwide. You will work with Technical Program Managers, Network Engineers, Design and Infrastructure Engineers, Field Engineers within Google, as well as construction and telecommunications vendors and contractors, all to position your team and organization for success.

The role requires more than 50% travel during peak project build cycles.

The Network Team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. Our team owns the full life cycle of all space, power, and network assets in all of Google’s data centers and metro points of presence globally. From the foundation, we are involved from site acquisition to construction and are accountable for what space and power is delivered. We're involved in every facet of network delivery from architecture and design to installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $126000 - $180000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

• Generate implementation plans and provide technical leadership and guidance during deployment activities.
• Collaborate closely with project management, network engineering and rest of the engineering team to identify in advance potential problems in network installations, including in the areas of facility power (AC/DC), cooling, security/access, rack layout and cable management.
• Own network documentation, updating and maintaining network drawings and plans.
