Job summary

Google is seeking a Network Implementation Engineer to lead deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks globally, collaborating with Technical Program Managers, Network Engineers, Design and Infrastructure Engineers, and contractors to position the team for success.

You will work to build a reliable, cost-effective, and scalable network for Google’s current and future customers and users worldwide. The role requires extensive travel during peak build cycles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Network/Telecom Eng or equivalent experience.
• 2 years in DWDM, TCP/IP, or system design operations.
• 2 years in carrier-class environments incl Layer 1 and Layer 2/3 networking.
• Experience coordinating field technicians, engineers, contractors, or vendors.
• Experience interpreting deployment packages to verify design accuracy.

• Commission and test routers and optical transport equipment in global nodes.
• Generate implementation plans and provide technical leadership during deployment.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering or Telecom Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  
• 2 years of experience in DWDM or TCP/IP or system design operations methodology.
  
• 2 years of experience in carrier-class environments, including Layer 1 physical infrastructure (DWDM, AC/DC power, OSP/ISP) and Layer 2/3 networking (TCP/IP, routing).
• Experience working with field operation technicians, engineers, contractors, or vendors in a telecommunications environment.
  
• Experience interpreting and validating deployment packages (including orders and construction specs) to verify design accuracy and escalating discrepancies to engineering partners before installation.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Layer 1 optical transmissions systems, layer 3 routing TCP/IP, wireless networking, network design, or operations.
• Experience identifying recurring errors in deployment packages or specifications and driving feedback loops to improve design accuracy and operational efficiency.
• Familiarity with network automation tools, scripting, SQL to query databases and track deployment consistency. Familiarity with network troubleshooting and testing tools. Basic Linux experience (run commands, move directories).
• Excellent cross-functional communication skills, providing frequent updates in bugs/tickets to engineering partners, project managers, and stakeholders to unblock projects and resolve immediate issues.

You will work with Technical Program Managers, Network Engineers, Design and Infrastructure Engineers, Field Engineers within Google, as well as construction and telecommunications vendors and contractors, all to position your team and organization for success.

The role requires more than 50% travel during peak project build cycles.

Our team owns the full life-cycle of all space, power, and network assets in all of Google’s data centers and metro points of presence globally. We're involved in every facet of network delivery from architecture and design to installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $104000 - $148000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and perform QA of installation technicians for rack, stack and installation of networking equipment.
• Commission and test routers, optical transport equipment, and other network devices in new and existing network nodes across Google's global network.
• Generate implementation plans and provide technical leadership and guidance during deployment activities.
• Collaborate closely with project management, network engineering and the rest of the engineering team to identify potential problems in network installations in advance, including in the areas of facility power (AC/DC), cooling, security/access, rack layout and cable management.
• Own network documentation, updating and maintaining network drawings and plans.
