WHAT'S THE ROLE?

We are looking for a Network Engineer to support the Bay Area Security Enhancement project — a multi-year transportation infrastructure initiative focused on industrial networks, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and field-based technologies. This is a hands-on, field-oriented role. The ideal candidate will support a Bay Area–wide deployment of connected systems, including field cameras, video management systems, industrial switches and routers, license plate recognition (LPR), video-based fire and smoke detection (VFSD), radar systems, and more. The candidate must be eager to learn, physically capable of working in challenging environments such as bridges, traffic cabinets, and confined spaces, and motivated to develop expertise in specialized industrial technologies and smart city solutions.

  • Monitor and maintain the health of the entire field-deployed network infrastructure.
  • Support, administer, diagnose, design, program, and monitor the following: Layer 2/3 industrial ethernet switches, video management system, Microsoft HyperV, VMWare, Proxmox virtual infrastructure support, video walls, operator workstations, IP cameras (PTZ, dome, LPR, etc.), AI-driven analytics (including License Place Recognition (LPR) and Smoke Detection (VFSD)), wireless and microwave systems.
  • Participate in field installations, cabinet work, and physical site inspections.
  • Create and maintain network documentation, including diagrams, configuration files, and redlined as-builts.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Work on-site regularly, including in elevated or confined environments such as bridges and equipment enclosures.
  • Lift and transport equipment weighing up to 50 lbs as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in EE, CompE, CS, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with the following: Network troubleshooting (Layer 1-7 OSI model), Layer 1 experience (fiber, copper, electrical circuits, Poe, etc.), System administration (Windows & Linux OS, VMs, storage, Msft Domains).
  • Required certifications: Cisco CCNA or equivalent and Network + or equivalent
  • Desired certifications: Comp TIA A+, ITF+, Security +, Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA), Windows OS, VMware certified associate.
  • Experience working with contractors desired.
  • Familiarity with industrial or ITS networks is a plus.
  • Familiarity with managing computers, servers, virtual machines, etc.
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Word and Excel experience.
  • Willing to travel throughout the Bay Area.
  • Interest in intelligent traffic systems and smart cities work.
  • Comfortable working outdoors, at heights or in roadside environments.
