Job summary

Abacus Solutions Group is seeking a network engineer to join the team at Kirtland Air Force Base near Albuquerque, NM. The role focuses on ensuring reliable satellite-ground communications and supporting secure network infrastructure and virtual server environments.

You will collaborate with the cybersecurity team to remediate deficiencies, analyze traffic, troubleshoot systems, and maintain network diagrams and IP tracking while providing after-hours support as needed.

• Experience supporting Linux/Unix environments and multi-vendor devices.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, install, and administer network systems.
• Assist senior engineers with installation, removal, and modifications to network components.
• Configure and troubleshoot switches, routers, firewalls, and peripherals in lab and production environments.
• Operate or administer Linux/Unix systems.
• Provide occasional after-hours support.
• Use monitoring tools to analyze network activity and problems.
• Develop and maintain network topologies, diagrams, and IP tracking.

Position Description:

Located at Kirtland Air Force Base our network team works alongside the US Space Force and ensuring satellites communicate efficiently with their ground systems and are simultaneously responsible for monitoring and support of network infrastructure and virtual server environments. The network team also collaborates with the cybersecurity team to remediate deficiencies.

Pay and Benefits:

• Up to $52/hr

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Analyze network characteristics such as traffic, connect time, transmission speeds, packet sizes, and throughput
• Troubleshoot, install, implement and administer network systems
• Assist more senior network engineers with the installation, removal and modifications to network components
• Configure, deploy, upgrade, and troubleshoot multivendor switches, routers, firewalls, and peripheral equipment in operational and test lab environments
• Operate or administer Linux and Unix systems
• Provide occasional after-hours operational support for network issues
• Apply your knowledge of enterprise system monitoring and management tools (Solar Winds, WireShark, iPerf, etc.) to analyze network activity and problems
• Develop and maintain network topologies, diagrams and IP tracking
