Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Network Engineer to design and operate complex multi-site networks for a major government customer based in Baltimore, Maryland. The role requires hands-on work in routing, switching, and fabric path environments, with travel consideration of 25% to 50%.

You will provide engineering expertise across deployment, implementation, and ongoing network support, collaborate with field teams, and ensure secure, reliable connectivity.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years with BS/BA or 7 years with AS/AA, or 9 years with High School diploma in lieu of degree.
  • CCNP certification is required.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience configuring routing protocols and switching in medium to large enterprise networks.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
  • US Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Define requirements for remote offices, campuses, and Data Centers to meet established standards.
  • Analyze current network configurations and determine implementation requirements.
  • Configure routing protocols and complex switch networks.
  • Prepare network equipment for deployment by loading appropriate software and configuration templates.
  • Assemble and arrange delivery of required equipment and cables for site installation.
  • Upgrade configurations to support new features and functions.
  • Collaborate with field installation contractors on-site to complete installations.
  • Review customer networks to identify opportunities to improve functionality, performance and reliability.
  • Assist in evaluating potential network products or solutions.
  • Test LAN/WAN and WLAN equipment software (IOS, NXOS).
  • Develop network documentation, standards, specifications and procedures.
  • Monitor opportunities to enhance customer network performance and reliability.
  • Provide after-hours and weekend support as needed.
  • Maintain and extend expertise in network hardware and software technology.

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum knowledge, skills, abilities needed.

  • Requires 5 years with BS/BA or 7 years with AS/AA, or 9 years with High School diploma in lieu of degree.
  • Cisco Certified Network Engineers must possess a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of hands‑on network experience configuring routing protocols and switching configuration in medium (One Data Center and 600+ locations) to large enterprise (Two Data Centers and 1000+ locations) networks.
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
  • US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with these skills will be given preferential consideration.

  • Prior experience supporting the Social Security Administration or similar government agencies.
  • Understanding of SSA business processes supporting IT programs, networks and/or cybersecurity programs.
  • Passed the Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert Written examination within the last year.
  • At least 2 years of experience writing Python scripting language and Regular Expression.
  • At least 3 years of experience implementing Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE) product in large milti-data centers and enterprise environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience deploying Cisco Virtual Private Network products such as Cisco ASA and Cisco Wireless LAN in a multi office and large campus environment.

Peraton is seeking a Network Engineer will be working on innovative network design and operations. This position will support various customers within Health Solutions. Position is responsible for providing engineering expertise for complex multi-service networking.

The network engineer is responsible for engineering, and supporting of the network design, deployment and operations for a large government customer located in Baltimore, Maryland. This position may require from 25% to 50% travel to various domestic customer locations.

What you’ll do:

  • Network requirements of remote customer offices, campus buildings, and Data Centers. Define equipment, cables, adapters and configurations needed to upgrade buildings and sites to established standard.
  • Analyze current network configurations and determine implementation requirements.
  • Configure routing protocols, complex switch networks, and Fabric Path configuration.
  • Prepare network equipment for deployment by loading appropriate software and configuration setting according to pre-engineered design templates.
  • Assemble required equipment, cables, adapters, etc. and arrange delivery to site for installation.
  • Upgrade configuration of existing network equipment to support new features and functions.
  • Work with the field installation contractors while they are on-site and provide all technical details to complete installations.
  • Continually review the customer’s network and practices looking for opportunities to enhance network functionality, performance and reliability.
  • Assist in the evaluation of potential network products or technical solutions.
  • Test LAN/WAN and WLAN equipment software (i.e: IOS, NXOS).
  • Contribute to the development of network documentation, including diagrams, standards, specifications and operating procedures.
  • Monitor for opportunities to enhance the customer network/system performance or reliability.
  • Monitor for opportunities to improve the customer service delivery practices.
  • Perform on-going management of network installation and upgrade projects and maintain deployment schedules.
  • Provide guidance to team members and provide status metrics to Government customer and Peraton Management.
  • Provide third-level support and troubleshooting of network problems. Periodically provide after-hours and weekend support.
  • Maintain and extend expertise in applicable areas of network and computer hardware and software technology.
