Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of experience administering complex LAN/WAN environments.
• CCNA level certification desirable. CCNP preferred.
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP routing protocols and network security.

Responsibilities

• Configure networks to ensure smooth and reliable operation to meet business objectives.
• Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problems; install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot end-user hardware and software as directed.
• Ensure connectivity of servers, workstations, telephony equipment, and other network devices.
• Maintain network asset inventory and related documentation and specifications.
• Monitor and test network performance and provide statistics and reports.
• Participate in managing network security solutions.
• Design and deploy LANs, WANs, and wireless networks; implement firewalls and VPNs.
• Interact with vendors and contractors to secure products and services.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Network Engineer 2 role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house data, video, voice and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the position will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end user training where required.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Operational Management

• Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
• Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed. Under direction of senior engineer, install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
• Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances.
• Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
• Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
• Participate in managing all network security solutions.

Acquisition and Deployment

• Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, switches, UPSs, and other hardware Design, Implement, and support firewalls, site-to-site VPNs, and remote-access VPNs.
• Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
• Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
• Work with senior engineers to design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, switches, UPSs, and other hardware.
• Support firewalls, site-to-site VPNs, and remote-access VPNs Conduct research on network products, services, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
• Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four years of experience administering complex LAN/WAN environments.

Preferred Qualifications

CCNA level certification desirable. CCNP preferred.

Preferred Experience

• Industry-related experience as a Senior Network Engineer or Network Administrator Professional certification (e.g. CCNP, CCDP).
• Solid background in network administration and architecture.
• In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF).
• Familiarity with access control models and network security.
