Job summary

Moderna is seeking a Network Operations Engineer to manage daily network operations and troubleshoot Tier 1 and 2 issues in a global, high‑growth biotech environment. You will report to the Senior Manager - Network Operations and help ensure a stable, well‑monitored network across sites.

You will monitor availability and performance, document runbooks, and collaborate with Cisco, Palo Alto, and service teams. This role requires strong networking fundamentals and teamwork across time zones.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of experience in network engineering or network operations.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, routing, NAT, VPN, DNS and basic network security concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise network gear (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless, WANs).
  • Experience troubleshooting connectivity, latency, and application access issues.
  • Familiarity with routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP, SD-WAN and high-availability designs.
  • Experience with network monitoring, logging, and observability tools (SolarWinds, Splunk, ThousandEyes, LogicMonitor, PRTG).
  • Experience with ITSM/ticketing platforms (ServiceNow, Jira).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a global, cross-functional environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to participate in on‑call rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Support operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise network infrastructure (routing, switching, firewalls, wireless, VPN, WAN, cloud).
  • Investigate and resolve Tier 1/2 incidents and service requests; escalate when needed.
  • Perform initial triage, log review, and root cause analysis for network issues.
  • Maintain network documentation, runbooks, and support procedures.
  • Participate in change management activities and network upgrades.
  • Collaborate with vendors and cross-functional teams to resolve issues and improve performance.
  • Contribute to incident response, post-incident reviews, and problem management.

Job description

The Role: This role is an exciting opportunity to be part of the team driving excellence in network service delivery for a high-growth organization transforming the biotech industry. We are seeking a Network Operations Engineer who will focus on managing daily network operations, troubleshooting Tier 1 and Tier 2 issues, and supporting escalation processes. Reporting to the Senior Manager - Network Operations, you will help ensure our global network remains stable, well‑monitored, and efficient.

Here’s What You’ll Do Daily Network Operations & Support:
  • Support the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise network infrastructure, including routing, switching, firewalls, wireless, VPN, WAN circuits CASB, ZTNA, and cloud connectivity.
  • Investigate and resolve Tier 1 and Tier 2 network incidents, service requests, and performance issues, escalating complex issues to senior network engineers or architecture teams when needed.
  • Perform initial triage, packet‑level analysis, log review, and root cause investigation for network connectivity, latency, routing, firewall, DNS, DHCP, and application access issues.
  • Support network changes, upgrades, configuration updates, and maintenance activities in accordance with established change management processes.
  • Maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams, support procedures, troubleshooting guides, and operational runbooks.
  • Contribute to the standardization and continuous improvement of network operations processes, tools, and documentation.
Network Monitoring & Performance:
  • Monitor network availability, performance, and capacity using observability and network monitoring platforms.
  • Respond to alerts, identify service‑impacting events, and coordinate timely resolution of network incidents.
  • Review network metrics, trends, and recurring issues to identify opportunities for performance improvement and proactive remediation.
  • Partner with monitoring and infrastructure teams to improve alert quality, reduce noise, and strengthen visibility across global sites and critical network services.
Incident, Problem & Change Management:
  • Participate in incident response activities for network outages, degraded service, and critical business‑impacting events.
  • Coordinate with cross‑functional teams during incidents to support effective communication, troubleshooting, and restoration of service.
  • Assist with post‑incident reviews, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and problem management follow‑up.
  • Participate in an on‑call rotation to support business‑critical network services outside normal business hours.
Vendor & Cross‑Functional Collaboration:
  • Work with third‑party vendors and service providers, including Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, ISPs, and managed service partners, to troubleshoot and resolve network issues.
  • Assist with vendor support cases, circuit escalations, hardware replacement coordination, and service‑impacting investigations.
  • Collaborate with Service Management and internal stakeholders to support SLA performance, change coordination, and operational reporting.
  • Communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders during incidents, maintenance activities, and service requests.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
  • 3–5 years of experience in network engineering, network operations, infrastructure support, or a related technical role.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, switching, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPN, and basic network security concepts.
  • Hands‑on experience supporting enterprise network environments, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, WAN circuits, and remote access technologies.
  • Experience troubleshooting network connectivity, latency, routing, firewall policy, and application access issues.
  • Familiarity with common routing protocols and network technologies such as OSPF, BGP, static routing, IPsec VPN, SD‑WAN, and high‑availability network designs.
  • Experience using network monitoring, logging, and observability tools such as SolarWinds, Splunk, ThousandEyes, LogicMonitor, PRTG, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working with ITSM and ticketing platforms such as ServiceNow or Jira.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a global, cross‑functional environment and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced setting.
  • Willingness to participate in an on‑call rotation for critical network support.
Here’s What You’ll Bringto the Table:
  • Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, healthcare, manufacturing, or other regulated enterprise environments.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, PCNSA, PCNSE, JNCIA, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Juniper, Aruba, F5, or similar enterprise networking technologies.
  • Experience supporting Palo Alto firewalls, Panorama, GlobalProtect, or similar network security platforms.
  • Familiarity with Prisma Access, SASE, Zero Trust Network Access, secure remote access, or cloud‑delivered network security solutions.
  • Exposure to CASB, SaaS visibility, cloud application monitoring, or cloud security operations.
  • Experience reviewing firewall logs, network flow data, security alerts, and access control policy behavior.
  • Experience working with vendors, managed service providers, carriers, and global support teams.
  • Scripting or automation experience with Python, Ansible, APIs, or network automation tools is a plus.
Pay & Benefits:

The salary range for this role is $109,200.00 - $174,600.00. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An individual’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity award, subject to company plan eligibility criteria and individual performance.
