Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. is seeking a Network Development Engineer, Network Fabric Engineering, to design, deploy, and scale IP networks across AWS data centers. You will produce high-quality designs and automation to improve deployment velocity and reliability.

You will collaborate with software, hardware, and network engineers, shaping roadmaps and providing production-ready designs. A strong Unix/Linux scripting background and extensive routing protocol experience are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or above in computer science or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols, network analysis fundamentals, and robust troubleshooting skills.
  • 8+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols; specifically, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP and ISIS in a large enterprise environment.
  • 8+ years working with major network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and/or Junos.
  • 3+ years experience with Unix/Linux skills and the ability to script in Python, Perl, or shell.

Responsibilities

  • Build, deploy, and scale the Amazon networks that support AWS, customers, and other business units across multiple global data centers.
  • Create network designs, services, and deployment procedures that meet many requirements.
  • Work with leadership to decide on the projects that best support the team’s mission.
  • Design ahead of customer or technology needs, produce High Level Design (HLD) and Low Level Design (LLD) documents, influence technology roadmaps, construct and test solutions, and provide support to teams that will deploy and operate these designs.
  • Automate deployment processes to increase quality and velocity.
  • Work closely with internal customers on designs/solutions, bringing those designs from concept to production.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, deploy, and scale the Amazon networks that support AWS, customers, and other business units across multiple global data centers.

Day in the Life
  • Work in a 24x7 team on‑call rotation, with ability to drive into the workplace for critical events/needs.
  • Manage customers during problem resolution and operate efficiently under pressure.
  • Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.
  • Travel to data center, network sites, and Amazon/customer offices as needed.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or above in computer science or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols, network analysis fundamentals, and robust troubleshooting skills.
  • 8+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols; specifically, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP and ISIS in a large enterprise environment.
  • 8+ years working with major network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and/or Junos.
  • 3+ years experience with Unix/Linux skills and the ability to script in Python, Perl, or shell.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters in Computer Science, MBA, or equivalent experience.
  • Senior or Lead Engineer experience at other organizations.
  • Expert‑level certifications (e.g. CCIE, JNCIE) are a plus.
  • Expert‑level scripting and/or automation skills in a network environment.
  • Software development/programming skills are a plus.
Benefits

Salary: USA, VA, Arlington – 159,100.00 – 215,300.00 USD annually; USA, WA, Seattle – 159,100.00 – 215,300.00 USD annually. Your package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and options for supplemental life plans, EAP, mental health support, medical advice line, flexible spending accounts, adoption and surrogacy reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
