Job summary

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure seeks a Principal Network Engineer to join the AI Infrastructure - Network Operations team. You will design, deploy, and manage large-scale global networks, including RDMA/RoCE fabrics, to support OCI's AI, GPU, and HPC services.

Lead complex projects, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product management, engineering, and vendors to ensure security, reliability, and optimal performance in a fast-paced cloud environment.

Qualifications

• The candidate must possess a strong background in large-scale network operations with design, troubleshooting, and management experience.
• Proven expertise in routing and switching technologies (BGP, OSPF, EVPN-VXLAN, MPLS) is essential.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Network Engineer to join our AI Infrastructure - Network Operations team at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This role is pivotal in supporting and operating the RDMA/RoCE network fabrics that underpin OCI's largest AI and HPC customers. As a key contributor, you will be responsible for the design, deployment, and ongoing management of large-scale global network environments, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security. Your expertise will directly impact OCI’s ability to deliver robust AI, GPU, and HPC services, supporting major industry vendors in the generative AI sector. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge networking technologies in a dynamic, fast-paced cloud environment, collaborating across diverse teams to drive operational excellence and innovation.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in large-scale network operations, with extensive experience in designing, troubleshooting, and managing complex network systems. Expertise in routing and switching technologies such as BGP, OSPF, EVPN-VXLAN, and MPLS is essential. Proven experience with network automation tools like Python, Ansible, and APIs will be highly valued. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of observability, telemetry, incident management, and cloud infrastructure environments. Strong communication skills, leadership capabilities, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams are critical. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required, along with relevant certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead the lifecycle management of network infrastructure projects by defining technical objectives, creating detailed deployment plans, and ensuring successful implementation at scale.
• Translate high-level network architecture designs into comprehensive, scalable, and reliable deployment strategies, ensuring operational readiness and performance standards are met.
• Serve as the technical lead for moderately complex network projects, coordinating efforts across design, automation, deployment, and support teams to meet project goals.
• Design, implement, and support network solutions across data centers, backbone networks, cloud environments, and service provider networks, ensuring seamless integration and high availability.
• Collaborate with service owners and infrastructure teams to embed monitoring, automation, and observability solutions into network architectures for enhanced operational efficiency.
• Act as a Tier 2 escalation point for network incidents, leading root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, and driving improvements in network reliability and performance.
• Investigate and resolve complex network issues, managing large-scale service-impacting events with a focus on rapid resolution and minimal downtime.
• Develop automation tools, scripts, and frameworks to streamline network operations, improve deployment consistency, and enhance incident response capabilities.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of operational tooling and automation frameworks to support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, and vendors to align network capabilities with business and product requirements.
• Engage with vendor engineering teams for troubleshooting, evaluating new technologies, and implementing operational enhancements.
• Participate in hardware evaluations, RFQ/RFP processes, and the adoption of new networking platforms and technologies.
• Drive strategic technology decisions to support business growth, product development, and service delivery objectives.
• Mentor junior engineers by providing technical guidance, troubleshooting support, and sharing best practices to foster team development.
• Contribute to the documentation of engineering standards, operational procedures, and best practices to promote consistency and operational excellence.
