Job description
Core IP Network Engineer II/III (Contract, Remote)

TEKsystems is currently seeking an experienced Core IP Network Engineer II or III for a 2‑year, 100% remote contract. The applicant must have 7+ years of experience with Core IP Network Engineering/Design in enterprise environments, preferably from an ISP background, and be proficient with MPLS, ISIS, BGP, Nokia and Juniper equipment, MOP creation, and Layer‑2/Layer‑3 networking.

Essential Duties
  • Test new technologies and service architectures in lab environments.
  • Plan, design, implement, and document new network implementations.
  • Complete engineering estimates and installation packages.
  • Provide escalation and troubleshooting support for operations teams.
  • Mentor junior staff to support the growth of technical knowledge and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • High‑level understanding of high availability, redundancy, reliability, scalability, and security.
  • Advanced experience with configuration of Alcatel/Nokia, Cisco, Brocade, or Juniper routers and switches.
  • Advanced understanding of routing protocols such as BGP, ISIS, OSPF, EIGRP, etc.
  • Strong understanding of RSVP, LDP, and PIM.
  • Strong understanding of data center network design.
  • Strong understanding of common transport technologies (Ethernet, SONET, TDM, fiber, microwave, satellite, Wi‑Fi, cellular).
  • Extensive experience with layer‑2 Ethernet technologies (VLANs, STP, LACP, MC‑LAG).
  • Strong analytic, strategic, interpersonal, and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively toward a common goal.
  • Ability to identify, report, and resolve technical problems consistently with established guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Minimum four years of relevant and progressive technical experience in a Carrier Ethernet or large ISP environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, telecommunications, or a related field is required.
  • Graduate degree in engineering may substitute for professional engineering experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
Certifications (preferred)
  • Juniper JNCIA / JNCIS
  • Cisco CCNA / CCNP
  • Nokia NRS I / NRS II
  • Brocade BCNE / BCNP
