Project Overview
This positionwill provide advanced engineering expertise necessary to complete criticalenterprise networking projects, improve infrastructure resiliency, modernizeaging systems, and establish technical standards that support the University'slong-term strategic objectives. The engagement will also provide technicalleadership and knowledge transfer to strengthen ongoing operational supportcapabilities. This is an on-site position at the downtown Columbia USC campus.Occasional remote work is permissible, but the majority of work will take placeon site. The Senior Network Engineer will serve as the Division's seniortechnical resource for enterprise network architecture, engineering,modernization, and operational excellence. Working collaboratively with EnterpriseArchitecture, Network Operations, Information Security, Cloud Services,Facilities Planning, project teams, vendors, and campus stakeholders, theincumbent will design, implement, and optimize the University's enterprisenetworking environment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Defineand advance the long-term technical vision and architecture for theUniversity's Enterprise Data Network (EDN), translating institutionalrequirements into scalable, secure, resilient network solutions.
- Providearchitecture and engineering leadership for enterprise LAN, WAN, wireless,data center, cloud, hybrid networking, and network security technologies.
- Leadcomplex network infrastructure projects and modernization initiatives thatimprove reliability, resiliency, scalability, security, and operationalefficiency.
- Developenterprise network architecture standards, engineering standards,reference architectures, technical roadmaps, lifecycle recommendations,and supporting documentation.
- Designhighly available network infrastructure and connectivity across campus,data center, cloud, and external service environments.
- Advancenetwork automation, orchestration, Infrastructure as Code, and deploymentpractices that improve consistency, efficiency, and reliability.
- Developand improve enterprise monitoring, observability, alerting, analytics,capacity planning, and operational metrics supporting proactiveinfrastructure management.
- Providesenior technical leadership for complex infrastructure issues, priorityincidents, architecture decisions, and advanced engineering challenges.
- Coordinatenetwork architecture and engineering initiatives with Network Operations,Information Security, Cloud Services, Physical Network Infrastructure,Facilities Planning, project teams, vendors, contractors, and campusstakeholders.
- Evaluateemerging technologies, support technical procurement and vendorevaluations, and provide knowledge transfer and documentation supportinglong-term operational sustainability.
- Providetechnical and project leadership for enterprise network architecture,advanced engineering, modernization, and infrastructure implementationinitiatives, including hands-on engineering when required.
- Designand engineer scalable, resilient, and secure LAN, WAN, wireless, datacenter, cloud, VPN, firewall, and Network Access Control solutions.
- Developand maintain enterprise network architectures, engineering standards,technical roadmaps, network diagrams, and other technical documentation;review and validate network designs and engineering solutions developed byother technical staff.
- Analyzeinstitutional, business, and technical requirements and translate theminto enterprise network designs and implementation strategies.
- Leadnetwork modernization, lifecycle planning, capacity planning, andremediation of aging or at-risk infrastructure.
- Developand implement monitoring, observability, automation, orchestration, andoperational metrics to proactively assess and improve enterprise networkhealth, capacity, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Serve asa senior technical resource and Tier III escalation point for complexnetwork incidents and engineering issues, performing advancedtroubleshooting and providing architecture-level guidance and resolutionwhen required.
- Coordinatearchitecture and engineering activities with Network Operations,Information Security, Physical Network Infrastructure, FacilitiesPlanning, project teams, contractors, consultants, vendors, and otherstakeholders.
- Evaluateemerging technologies and solutions and provide technical recommendationssupporting procurement, investment, and long-term infrastructure planning.
- Providetechnical mentoring, knowledge transfer, and engineering guidance toNetwork Operations and other technical personnel; participate inmaintenance windows and after-hours support when required.

Requirements
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor'sdegree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering,Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline or equivalent workexperience.
Required Skills:
- 4+ yearsof experience with enterprise network architecture and engineering withincomplex, mission-critical environments.
- 4+ yearsof experience with LAN/WAN technologies, including Juniper enterpriserouting and switching, TCP/IP, enterprise routing protocols, DNS, DHCP,and IPAM.
- 4+ yearsof experience leading complex network architecture and engineeringinitiatives from requirements and design through implementation,troubleshooting, and operational transition.
- 4+ yearsof experience with enterprise infrastructure modernization, lifecycleplanning, capacity planning, resiliency, and high-availability design.
- 4+ yearsof experience with network security architecture and technologies,including Fortinet firewalls and VPN/SASE technologies, Network AccessControl (NAC), segmentation, and security policy implementation.
- 4+ yearsof experience with cloud and hybrid networking, including AWS or MicrosoftAzure.
- 4+ yearsof experience with network automation, orchestration, scripting, andInfrastructure as Code concepts and technologies.
- 4+ yearsof experience with enterprise network monitoring, observability,analytics, metrics, and performance management.
Preferred Skills:
- JuniperNetworks Certified Professional Enterprise Routing and Switching(JNCIP-ENT) or higher.
