Job summary

NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking an IT professional to help build and support Cisco-based LAN/WAN environments and provide infrastructure analysis and technical support. The role is based in Chicago and follows a hybrid schedule with in-office presence required.

The position focuses on network, virtual servers, storage, and IP telephony, with opportunities to influence security standards and project implementations. A Bachelor's degree and 3 years’ experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant IT field.
• 3 years of experience in installation and maintenance of Citrix or Cisco-based infrastructure in an Enterprise context.
• Strong customer interaction and verbal/written communication skills.
• Some travel to company site.
• Experience across network, virtual servers, storage systems and IP telephony.
• Proficient with Windows operating system.

Responsibilities

• Support new network infrastructure projects and implementations.
• Assist with development and implementation of security standards and guidelines for production center platforms and remote access.
• Coordinate network system upgrades and maintenance tasks.
• Develop recommendations for upgrades to ensure a stable, available network infrastructure.
• Research and consult with vendors and internal customers to ensure infrastructure effectiveness.
• Diagnose and resolve complex network infrastructure problems.
• Apply best practices to improve procedures and services.
• Solve a range of problems using standard procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for assisting with the build-out of corporate LAN/WAN environments based on Cisco and other network technology and for providing technical support and analysis for infrastructure-related projects.

LOCATION:

This is a hybrid role based in our Chicago Loop office, with a minimum of six days per month in the office.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support new network infrastructure projects and implementations
• Assist with the development and implementation of security standards, procedures and guidelines for the production center platforms, remote access methods and environments
• Coordinate network system upgrades and the performance of maintenance tasks
• Develop recommendations or solutions for upgrades and improvements to ensure a stable, available, and protected network infrastructure
• Perform research and consults with resources, vendors, and internal customers to ensure the effectiveness of the infrastructure
• Diagnose and resolve difficult and complex network infrastructure problems
• Use best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services and take active role in improving procedures
• Solve a range of both complex and straightforward problems; analyze possible solutions using standard procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent relevant expertise
• 3 years of experience in installation and maintenance of Citrix or Cisco based infrastructure in an Enterprise context.
• Good customer interaction skills and verbal and written communication skills are required
• Some travel to company site
• Position encompasses network, virtual servers, storage systems and IP telephony
• Possess knowledge of the Windows operating system

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The pay range for this position is $72,000 - $108,000

This position is classified as regular. Regular staff are eligible for NORC’s comprehensive benefits program.
