Network Administrator

Recruiting Heroes LLC
Location: Eglin AFB, Florida
Job Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000
Clearance Required: Active Top Secret Clearance Required | TS/SCI Preferred

About the Opportunity

Recruiting Heroes is seeking a highly qualified Network Administrator for a full-time, on-site opportunity supporting the 53rd Wing at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

This is a hands-on, technically demanding role for an experienced network infrastructure professional with a strong background supporting enterprise-level networks in a DoD, U.S. Air Force, federal IT, or similarly complex environment.

This is not a helpdesk role and it is not a junior systems administrator position. The ideal candidate will have documented experience building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and sustaining enterprise network infrastructure in a mission-critical environment.

Position Summary

The Network Administrator will support enterprise LAN/WAN infrastructure, Cisco routing and switching, firewall administration, Windows Server environments, STIG compliance, RMF support, vulnerability remediation, and day-to-day network availability for a critical Air Force mission environment.

The right candidate must be able to operate independently, troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, maintain compliance with DoD security requirements, and support network operations where uptime and performance directly impact operational readiness.

This role is best suited for someone who has real hands-on experience with Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, STIGs, RMF, and DoD cybersecurity requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Network Infrastructure Management
  • Design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise-level LAN/WAN network infrastructure.
  • Configure, administer, and sustain Cisco routers, switches, and firewall platforms.
  • Support network operations in classified and unclassified environments.
  • Administer firewall rule sets, access control lists, VLANs, network segmentation, and related network security configurations.
  • Monitor network performance and diagnose complex connectivity, routing, switching, firewall, and infrastructure issues.
  • Implement corrective actions to maintain availability, security, and operational readiness.
  • Support lifecycle management of network hardware, servers, endpoint systems, and related infrastructure.
Windows Server & Systems Support
  • Manage and maintain Windows Server environments.
  • Support Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related enterprise services.
  • Provide Tier II and Tier III network infrastructure support.
  • Escalate complex issues appropriately while maintaining ownership and accountability.
  • Maintain accurate network documentation, configuration records, diagrams, and change management logs.
DoD Compliance & Cybersecurity Support
  • Ensure systems remain compliant with STIG requirements, DISA standards, and applicable DoD security policies.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity personnel on vulnerability remediation, system hardening, and risk reduction.
  • Support RMF compliance, authorization activities, and security documentation.
  • Assist with maintaining infrastructure readiness for audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Support cybersecurity and operations teams in maintaining secure, mission-ready network environments.
Mission Support & Documentation
  • Support network infrastructure for a mission-critical Air Force operational environment.
  • Maintain organized records, configuration files, change logs, and technical documentation.
  • Communicate clearly with technical teams, leadership, cybersecurity personnel, and mission stakeholders.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.
  • Support continuous improvement of network reliability, documentation, processes, and security posture.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Top Secret clearance required at time of application.
  • TS/SCI preferred.
  • 3 to 7 years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Minimum of 3 years of documented network infrastructure management experience required.
  • Proven experience configuring and administering Cisco routers, switches, and firewall platforms in a production environment.
  • Experience with LAN/WAN management, routing, switching, firewalls, VLANs, ACLs, and network segmentation.
  • Proficiency with Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • CompTIA Security+ required at time of application.
  • IAT Level II compliance required.
  • Experience working in a DoD, U.S. Air Force, federal IT, or equivalent mission-critical IT environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across network hardware, systems, infrastructure, and security layers.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site at Eglin AFB, Florida.
  • Strong professional communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • CCNA or equivalent Cisco certification.
  • Experience with Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, Fortinet, or similar firewall platforms.
  • Experience implementing STIGs and supporting RMF/ATO compliance.
  • Familiarity with ITSM and ticketing platforms such as Remedy or ServiceNow.
  • Prior experience supporting USAF Wing-level operations or a comparable DoD command environment.
  • Experience with endpoint management tools such as MECM/SCCM.
  • Experience with network monitoring and security tools such as SolarWinds, Splunk, ACAS, or Tenable.
  • Experience with TACLANE or other cryptographic network equipment.
  • Familiarity with Nexus switching environments and data center network technology.
Ideal Candidate Background

This role may be a strong fit for candidates with experience in:

  • DoD network administration
  • U.S. Air Force IT support
  • Enterprise network infrastructure
  • Cisco routing and switching
  • Firewall administration

  • Classified and unclassified network environments
  • Tier II and Tier III infrastructure support
  • Mission-critical IT operations
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a true network infrastructure professional who has built, sustained, and secured enterprise networks in a DoD or similarly demanding environment.

This person should be comfortable working independently, managing technical priorities, troubleshooting complex issues, documenting network changes, coordinating with cybersecurity teams, and supporting infrastructure that cannot go down.

This role is not designed for someone whose experience is primarily helpdesk, desktop support, or basic systems administration. The program requires someone with proven, hands-on network infrastructure management experience.

Why This Role

The 53rd Wing at Eglin AFB supports one of the Air Force's most important operational test and evaluation missions. The network infrastructure supporting this environment is mission-critical, and the person maintaining it plays a direct role in operational readiness.
